Im starting to think that the $200 dollar install for shorty headers is not worth the horsepower gain. If anybody has short tube headers (FORDMS) if possible, I would like to hear about how much (if any) gains that were felt.

You have an 04 GT which means 4.6 engine. Now look at the room between your exhuast ports on the heads and the fenderwell and framerail. Now think to yourself where is there room to make a signifacantly better flowing header?

Gears are going to be a great bang for your buck!

5.0 mustang wrote an article and addressed this issue.(August 2002 Pg.50). Basically they said "if a short tube header fits in a 4.6 Mustang GT the header doesn't work". They say that the factory headers flow fairly well and they suggest going with a good high flow smog legal x pipe for the 4.6 and leave it at that.

Hope that helps.

The equal length BBK shorty header advertises 10-14 HP gain on the 4.6L. The full length version advertises 18-20 RWHP. What I find interesting in the ads is that the shorty header advertises HP vs. RWHP thus in reality the shorty probably only adds 5 RWHP if any. Moral of the story get the full lengths or keep the stock version. I agree the gears will give you more bang for your buck.

I have seen BBK's equi-shorties for a 4.6 and they look like the are even more of a nightmare to put in than the LT's are. I just don't see any gains that the equi-shorties that have to work within the room that is given can make much difference or be worth the aggreviation of putting in.
