Barn Doors Stuck Closed

The rear barn doors on my 1998 Suburban won't open - push the handle and nothing happens. I've dismantled from the inside and verified the lock mechanism is working properly. I've even detached to linkage rods to the top and bottom latches and manually operated them, but neither will unlatch. Anyone seen this?
