my half shaft i think??

last night i was driving home and i stopped at a stop sign. i have a stick so i dropped from second into first. i started go let off the clutch and give it some gas and i heeard a huge pop. i tured off the road cuz i thought i pooped my tire. i looked around no tires were popped but somthing was hanging down from the bottom of my car. it was conected to my wheel. its circular in shaped and the inside is triangular. its very greasy. a metal piece thinner but in the same shape had fallen off of the car. so i think it is my half shaft?? thats what some one told me. is that what it really is and how much will it take jsut in parts to replace that? thanks nick

There are two possibility:
that Shaft you were talking about
or steering tie rod

try check yo engine oil or power steering oil

if you lost alot of power steering then it might just be
steering tie rod.

from the looks of its, steering tie rod kinda skinny diammeter of a
water bottle cap, if you happened to feel the car body shake when it pop it could be the shaft and if the wheel shake it would be the steering tie rod
