Hey everyone i was just wondering what you guys think of the sound of these two motors. Which one do you prefer sound wise?

V-twin = sounds harley, possibility of making a person deaf

Inline 4 = High revving scream, seems more exciting

I love the sound of high revving engines.

definitely sportbike twins-NO HARLEYS! an earth shattering roar, not a whiny high pitched scream.

A decent sport bike v twin like a Ducati sounds great.
I HATE harley's sound. Stock it's tolerable, but everyone around here runs those dopey really loud pipes, which give a Harley the graceful sound,,,of my old snowblower with no muffler. However, every in line 4 sounds like an Formula one car winding out. It's great.
If I want the harley sound....i'll get the snow blower out.

My Honda 750 gots a volkswagon stubb at the end of each (4) short pipe. It's pissed. Harley guys respect it!

I hate the harley sound too, if I hear it anymore, I will go deaf!

doesn't the SV650 also carry v-twin? I don't suppose that makes Harley noise.

I guess the difference in sound is mostly to do with harley engines having much bigger capacities and very long piston strokes?

no the sv makes a sounds like a very deep low toned 4 cylinder.

The harley has a unique sound from most vtwins because they decided to have both cylinders fire at the same time. Which is why the engine makes laughable power for its displacement, why the bike rattles apart, and why they are so damn annoying when coupled with a exhaust which are nothing more than polished straight pipes.

That's crazy. I never knew that was even possible. Why on earth would they want to do that?

because some people love that sound. and gives better launch at lower revs.

Anyway, how do v-twins in sportbikes work as oppose to inline 4? How do they generate power, and what makes them weaker than the 4 cyls? Why are v-twins much more versatile for streets?

I am intrigued because Honda decided to go with the 1 liter V-twin for their NAS project instead of poweful inline 4. They said they're aiming it more for the streets than race track. Thanks.

The two conncecting rods share one crank pin, so they don't quite fire at the same time, but fire on the same crank rotation, 45 degrees of rotation apart.
(picky, picky, picky...)

The thing about V-twins is they are not super fast, but they can keep up in the twisties.
