Has anyone else been told that you have to replace the Remotes for Keyless entries every 4 years? I have a 2000 silverado 1500 that is having Problems with the keyless entry.
Thanks,
Ed Jones

I have never heard that......Try replacing the batteries in the remote first, they use a watch type battery.

Replace battery and then reteach it by holding the lock and unlock button until you here the door locks cycle back and forth once. Make sure your close to the vehicle.

I will try that First. this all stems from the Keyless entry going off by itself all the time. Since we were told we had to change the remotes every 4 years and the truck is past that point. Just grabbing at straws trying to figure out why it keeps going off
Thanks,
Ed

you have to do all receivers at once. once reprogram mode is entered it erases all stored remotes
1 start with ingnition off, hold down the power unlock button on door panel. turn ignition key on,off,on,off, release power unlock button on the door panel. the locks will cycle once.
2 hold down the keyless entry transmitter lock and unlock buttons for 15 seconds. the locks will again cycle once.
3 repeat step 2 for each additional keyless entry transmitter.
4 turn ingnition on to exit the keyless entry transmitter proggramming mode.
check funtion of remotes
the second method requires scan tool
