What exactly do you mean by "true" duals?

Dude, I don't know. My truck came stock with duals (they come together and exit in only one exhaust pipe though), but I would check around at some of your local muffler shops and see what they have to say. Good luck! :smokin:

true duals go all the way back to the cat and require two mufflers. they can exit into two seperate pipes or be routed back to one. That's the way my 98 was. However, I sawed off both pipes after I had dual tips put on to make it LOUD as hell. Now my exhaust dumps out right under the cab. (a little annoying but worth it!)

True duals are exactly that. Most duals are your two headers merge into one goes into your muffler, then splits and two pipes come out. Ture duals are: each header goes into it's own muffler then exits to its pipe. Produces more horsepower..... always good!

True duals never come together like stock exhausts do. The muffler shop in town will not do this, because I wanted no cats, and no mufflers. They said it's illegal, but I paid a guy that works there enough, if you know what i mean, (a little under the table money exchange) and he did them after hours for me!!! :D hehehe.....definetly boost horsies, and it sounds DAMN good too!!!

After paying for the equipment (cats, mufflers, headers) about how much do you think the shop would charge to install it?

Well I looked into the same thing and a muffler shop here told me not to do it because I would start getting a service engine soon light. I went with just a catback system and guess what I am now getting a service engine soon light so good luck!!

my engine light will come on every now and then, but not very often and usually when at WOT. BUT I LOVE THE WAY THAT SOUNDS AT WOT. Ignore it IF it is a trouble code for the emissions system.

I lost alittle milage because i put on 2" pipes. fixed it and put on 2" 1/2 pipes and brought my milage back up. I am getting around 24 to 26 mpg doing 70 on average speed. 1996 5.7L vortec

A 96 350 should already have dual cats and then both pipes go into one big muffler. It is not illegal to convery to two mufflers, But is illegal to remove the cats. I had the muffler removed and had twin mufflers installed and a balance tube installed between the pipes to keep back pressure equal and it is legal. I didn't really gain anything except a nice rumble because the stock exaust on a vortec already flows well. All four O2 sensors still function and no SES light. On a 96 you can't remove the cats or the computer will go berzerk and the truck will run like sheet!!

For the love of God where do you gentlemen here some of this stuff. You can put true duel on anything yes anything..... Ok putting duels on a 96 chevy truck is a great idea . The only o2 sensor you need it the front 2 , yes by removing the back 2 you will tripe a code but that code tell the computer nothing more the cat arent work it doesnt change anything nor does it harm or hurt the motor or computer. The front o2 sensors are the only one the computer depends on for the right are fuel mixture . The back do nothing as far a leaning it out or fatting it up !!!!! As far as vortec 5.7 flow good anyway that is false .. Any system the you install headers on with make a dramatic difference in power gas and gas milage ..

The back O2 sensors don't do anything? Then why are they there?
Did anyone else feel like jamesbtri had his pinky twitching over the cAPS lock while typing that?

Depends on which shop you go to. My local auto mechanic recommended ditching the cat on my 92 F150 to run true duals with glasspacks and I had no problems with anything. My 97 chevy has true duals with no mufflers at all but it still has the cats. I figured since it already had two cats, why get rid of them, you can have dual exhaust and still be legal. Talking with buddies of mine no one has had any problems telling exhaust shops what they want and getting it.
Thanks

Also if the SES light bugs ya, you can get this little gizmo thatplugs into the rear O2 sensor harness and fools the puter into thinking everything is hunky dorie :)

I have a 98 K-1500 and I dualed it out over a year ago. I didn't replace the cats as there are two cats on two seperate pipes. From the junction after the cast I had the muffler shop weld on two seperate Flowmaster Delta-40 mufflers and exited the exhaust pipes with tips behind the truck. It sounds very good and I highly recommend the Flowmaster mufflers. Good luck and enjoy.

The rear o2 sensors are only there to tell the pc that your cats are there . As far as them tell the computer to do anything like change the air fuel mixture they dont . That is the front 2 sensors job ! So if you where to remove the cats leaving the front 02 sensors in place the truck will still run just fine. However the ses will turn on , but if you can live with it will do no harm to the motor or as stated below in another post you can buy 02 simulators to keep the ses light off !
Not look to stir shieatttt just stating the facts!
