how much?

how much would i expect to pay for 1991-1993 240sx fastback (1993 preferred since its newer) in minty (no rust) condition? i see a 1993 black 240sx on autotrader.ca (i live near toronto) for $4495 with 190 000 km on it. it is 5 speed. i emailed the guy and told me $4200, but i can probably talk him down to $4000. if this is a decent deal (i have yet to check out the car, but im hoping its in good condition) please let me know. thanks. :D

edit: there are also 2 other 1993 fastbacks for sale, both going for $6200. they both sound in perfect condition and look like it as well (judging from the picture).

one states new struts, rotors, pads, fuel tank, strut rod (no idea what this is...), and 166 000 km, as well as a cd pioneer stereo... the only downside is that it comes with steel wheels (wheel covers).

the second one looks like it come with rims, and has "yoko and nokian 16' tires". i have never heard of nokian before, but thats beside the point. 218 000 km.

i really like the one with lower mileage, but $6200 just seems a bit (alot) pricey... but if you guys think its a good deal, ill have to take a road trip down there (613 area code, ottawa area i guess) and check it out myself. thanks again. :iceslolan

btw, all pricing is in canadian dollars if you havent figured it out yet ^^.

$4000 Amrican $? or Canadina $ makes a bid diff!
Toranto huh? -----> Canadina $ right ! if so that is like $3100 here so i think you might what to lower that a bit.

he did mention canadian dollars at the end.

Ask a mechanic or someone that knows cars to come with u and check out the car. Also check if the car has given any problems with the timing chain. I hear those are a real pain to replace. A good thing to see is a record of all the service that has been done to the car. Mine had all of em and was in good running condfition, bought it from an old white guy. I bought mine for around $3k ($2700) U.S. dollars.

haha... i feel for you R.W.240... ive been saving for a few years already to purchase one, im almost 19 now... got about 7 grand rounded up, enough for the car and a few mods. i want to get one in good condition because i dont think ill have too much left over for extensive repairs, although i do have a somewhat decent knowledge about cars (took auto class for 3 years in high school).

vRacing: i see a few on autotrader.ca for a few hundred dollars... but they are all the 89-90 pignose/sohc models, and im aiming for a dohc and good condition one... just wondering, what kind of repairs did you have to do to bring your car up to good condition? or was it already running well at that price? cuz if it was, what a deal you got! :D

KenOhki2112: which price is a good price to pay? the $4200 or the $6200? i really dont want to use ALL of my saved up money for just the car alone and not have any reserve left, but if it is in perfect condition and the $4200 one needs repairs, i will have to seriously consider it...

johnnyboy5: i currently do not have a car and my parents are all about cheaper domestic cars... :screwy: so i dont think that the mechanic that they know would help me much.... and he isnt really well known either. my friends arent really car enthuiasts either... i guess i would be most qualified. oh, and thanks for the tip... any other things that i should look out for?

one last thing to add, i see a really nice 1991 white 240sx with only 95 000 km (! lowest ive ever seen...) going for $2300... the only problems i see are that its automatic and "as is" condition. i was under the impression that as is means that it wont pass emissions? please correct me if im wrong. anyways, my real question here is how much would it cost for the automatic to manual transmission and how hard is it to do? yes, i know this has been posted before, but ive seen prices ranging from 300 to 1000... just wondering if there is anywhere i can do it in and around toronto area... thanks alot to everyone for their replies. :iceslolan

Both prices sound reasonable. But for 7K just get a TT 300zx.

Oh wait, $7000 canadian. Never mind ^^

wow, you can get 300zx tt for 7 grand? even in canadian thats less than 10 grand, and i seriously doubt i could pick one up here... unless youre talking about the older models... which i dont like very much... the 90+ models around here, the cheapest ive seen is about 8 grand for a NA model... i went to look at it, and the seats were really rough condition, super high mileage, and the glovebox didnt close... i didnt bother looking at it further. anyways, hopefully ill get some time soon to call up some of these people and take a look at the cars, im a busy guy, lots of work to do in morning until afternoon, and i dont think many people appreciate me calling in the evening.

as for the vlsd comment, i believe i read somewhere here (i think brian said it, screenname suislide or something...) that all canadian 240sx from 1991-1993 came with vlsd regardless of super hicas. but ill have to confirm this by doing that spinning one wheel looking at other wheel rotation test. or i could just buy one with super hicas and get a hicas disabler bar. either way is good.

I dont think who ever your buying from is going to appreciate you doing donuts while trying to figure out if it has a VLSD.

300ZX TT would be a good buy but us young guys get Raped on Insurance when it comes to 3.0 Turbos

lol, i didnt mean that... i meant the jacking up the car and spinning one wheel by hand and watching how the opposing wheel spins...

damn must of I got one hell of a deal, I got my 1993 240 100,000 miles for 2500, it has a few hail dents but nothing major, runs great (most of the time). and after my rebuild I might have put 3500 more into it.... I see 95+ 240's around here go for maybe 5-6k in good condition
