Hi,
I have an 86 GT and want to switch to V8
I have a 350 and would like to use it if possible...but Im not sure what Im going to need to change, Im guessing the computer, tranny, and axles...but what about things like brakes and suspension?
My other choice is to get like a 3.8 supercharged and use that, and I know I can get that with a transaxle....Would that be a bit better since it is ment more for front wheel drive, and has the tranny with it????
Also, if anyone knows how difficult/how to go about switching from auto to manual?
I would also like to put MSD on my vehicals and was just wondering if any of you peoples had any experience with it...is it worth it?
Any suggestions?? :) Thanx!

Chances are the springs will sag, you'll probably need to modify the suspension if you want to drive the car on the street alot. If you plan to drive fast and brake hard, stock brakes won't do it, brake fade and warped rotors are guranteed. The cooling system wasn't meant to move enough coolant to keep a v8 at a happy temperature, overheating will be a problem if using the stock coolant tubes and radiator.
A cheaper alternative would be a bigger v6 - the supercharged 3800 would work plus it bolts right to your stock tranny, but getting the wiring right is kinda a pain. A turbo 3.8L (Buick grand national) is a good option as well with no fuel injection to worry about.
-You can modify your 2.8 to put out 200hp or more-
To change from automatic to manual you need:
Manual transaxle, clutch, flywheel and pilot bushing
A pilot hole in the crankshaft end - not all have one.
Clutch master cylinder, pedal, and small brake pedal
Shifter, cable brackets, console and cables
5/16 brake line for clutch hydraulics
Clutch slave cylinder
Transaxle mounts and CV axles
It isn't a "hard" job, mostly bolt on, you'd be punching out a few holes in the body where the cables and clutch cylinder go. The ony creative part is wiring the reverse lights and clutch safety switch... not a big deal.
