Exhaust System

I have a 2003 Celica GT, Automatic (I know, Booo) stock. New at the modding thing. Anyway, i wanted to give is a deeper tone exhaust. What i was planning on doing was bolting on a catback exhaust (not exactly sure what the exact definition of that is yet) But maybe Greddy or something. Anyway, mount it deeper under the car then have a split pipe come out from under the car to dual exhaust tips so it doesn't have that whining sound. What do you guys think? Tips. etc etc.

hey,, well, duals arent gonna help you not make it sound like a civic/chainsaw.
That ugly sound comes when you bolt a BIG OVERSIZED muffler on a shitty 4 cyl that dont have enuf juice to push out of it.
My point is... I have a 90 celica and i just put a exhaust sys with a big muffler... Well, i ordered another one, it turned out to be way smaller than i wanted but this turned out to be a gud thing. It made it wayyy deeper, now it hums rather than than that "yeeeeeeeeeeennnnngggg" sound.
SMaller muffler = 'hummmmmmmmmmmmm (wooo-chish)" Lol, turbo effects...
Well, thats my 2cents~
gud luck

I Don't Knwo About All This Hype About A Deep Sounding Car... I Look For Performance Nto Sound, And From What I Did.......headers, Gutted The Cat, High Perforamnce Muffler(less Back Pressure) And 2.5" Exhaust Fromt He Collector To The End.......damn Good Feeling To Be Put Back In The Seat From A 4 Cyclinder That Has Mild Mods And Little Cash.......but, Whatever Floats Your Baots Is What Will Work

True, But Don't Have Emissions Test Here Where I Live. So, Make Sure You Check The Lkocal And State Laws First, Cause There Are Some Headers And Mufflers That Are Also Illegal

If you arent careful when you gut the cat though you can clog up your pipe downstream. Alot of people drill a hole in it and hit it with a hammer to break up the insides. Most of it falls out but sometimes some of it stays in there and gets pushed down the exhaust by the pressure. If you can afford it, I would just suggest going with a high flow cat, because I think that an empty cat makes a crappy hollow noise and sometimes makes the exhaust sound worse.

yea, i agree with dober. If you can afford it, get the whole kit. Monza makes a kit. It comes with a lame muffler but you can get another one to accomidate the looks and style of your car. So your only paying for the pipes.
You could just get someone to make it for you. Most muffler shops can doit but becuase of high demand and just plain popularity, they tend to charge high. Maybe 400- 700 dollars depending on application and how complicated it may look to the guy. Remember, rule of thumb, Dont go too big. It will make your car sound like a chainsaw or civicc!
maybe 2inch pipes and a 3inch out muffler. Ohh, get the headers while your at it. The only way you can get it is custom. ther are some for the 5sfe mr2's but i dont think it would go on a celi.
Good luck!

Oh That Sucks About Custom Headers, I Am Glad Mine Were Bolt On. And Yes I Did Unscrew The Bolt On The Bottom Of My Cat And Shook The Junk Out, Sounds Ok To Me With My Lil 22r And 2" Pipe All The Way To The Rear With A Stock Muffler. Sounds Like It Would Be A Lot Cheaper To But A High Flow Cat From Somewhere Else, But I Don't Know Since I Haven't Looked For One. But I Do Knwo That Buying What Everyone Else Does Sometimes Means You Are Buying A Name Not A Product, So Please Do Your Shopping. I Put Tokiko Shocks And Struts On My Car...everyone Was Asking 250 A Piece And I Got All 4 For 200. So Look Around
