well mandrel bends are better than crush, you might have to search around for a shop that does this and then they might wanna charge you an arm and a leg. You want a good resonator, not a glass pack. and a good name brand universal muffler. 2.25 is a good size but it depends on your mods, do you plan on going forced induction in the future? A custom system can be a big hassel 'cause you don't know what it's gonna sound like untill you turn the key and start driving. If you have the money try to buy a cat back or a used one but you need to talk to shops and see what they recomend, they have the experience....I hope

I agree with Rgacke about the mandrel bends, reputable muffler (check out DragunFire...lifetime warranty), and 2.25" piping (N/A)...but lose the resonator. It is just another power eater. Anything that you can eliminate to make the exhaust flow more freely, the better.
Try to get stainless steel piping. It may be expensive though...you may opt for alluminized pipe (which in my opinion is second best to stainless).
Also, ask them to use all stainless welds. If no where else, atleast get stainless welds to hang the muffler.

No resonator=loud as hell. However, they do eat power and if you are not concerned with the noise level then by all means leave it out.:)

I'm getting custom piping done this weekend hopefully. I've had a 5zigen Fireball muffler on my car for almost a year now, and I want to do the custom piping. I'm getting 2.25'' stainless steel mandrel bent piping from the cat to the muffler. No resonator. What kind of sound difference am I looking at here after the piping? Louder? Deeper?

i have a fireball on my car with a resontor and a 2.25 piping...it's sounds awesome...nice and throaty and deep. I do have I/H too, so that will affect the sound as well...but it sounds really good.

some resonators lose HP unless its perforated, meaning the inner baffles are drilled, not punched and puled out to disrupt flow. check out

I have a 93 civic (D16Z6). 2.25" pipe from cat back, mandrel bends, alluminized pipe, no resonator.
It IS loud...but loud is not bad (unless you live in a state and/or town that is real strict on noise pollution).
Actually...I probably have the loudest (not that loud means powerful)4cyl. in my area. (street legal, anyway).
