D16Z6 Question

i have a 89 civic dx that i want to put a D16Z6 in and i was wondering if when i put the engine in i do not have a vtec controller nor have the money fo it but the question is do i have to have one will the engine run wiothout vtec and will it hurt it till i get the money for the controller or i also have a d16a6 head can i put it on there and if i can what head gasket will i need.

No, you don't need a VTEC controller, yes, the engine will run without VTEC. Don't bother with a VTEC controller, just get the P28 ECU which will control the VTEC itself.

what about the head swap till i get the p28 ecu and rest to do vtec the right way

dont even bother with putting the a6 head on the z6. Just run the z6 without vtec.

well i dont have cam or rollers for the vtech head and both heads are off so its just a pick unless i can find a cam and rollers for the head im gonna have to go with the a6. understand? not trying to be rude ust listing my options.

I have a stock z6 cam if ya need it $27.00 shipped its got 52,964 miles on it.

i know you can put a a6 head on a z6 block, im just not sure which headgasket you would use..
I use the MLS D16Z6 head gasket for *ALL* d series engines. sure it cost a couple bucks more, but the peace of mind of having a metal head gasket plus the convenience of being able to reuse it a couple times makes it all worth it for me. There is nothing i hate worse than scraping lead head gaskets off of blocks/heads.
