i want to do a rebuild on my SOHC KA. What pistons, rods, etc. should i go with? thanks

Stock, stock, and stock. Unless you're going to be putting some serious power into the motor, there is no reason to make things beefier than they already are. That engine is teh beef in stock trim.

well, seeing as i want a bit more power, what would you sugggest? keeping it N/A.

...an N/A KA24E, what will that run at? 170hp? Maybe. If you want you can get high comp pistons...

If you're looking for 170 horses out of a KA, then finding a junked KA24DE should be your first step. That second camshaft is definitley going to help alot. Seeing how you can get the entire motor for less than 100$ from a local junkyard or classified ad, price isn't much of an issue. Fitment into a 89-90 chassis won't be an issue, you will only need power steering lines and resivoir from a 91+, and the DE ECU I believe.
90% of your power is made in the head(s). A nice port and polish, upgraded valvetrain, and replacing your cams with exhaust cams from a 91 KA will get you close to that 170. I would suggest still using a stock (but rebuilt) bottom end, as 170 horses is still not that much power.
Basics like Intake, exhaust, header should get you to your goal. Good luck.
