My girlfriends car is a 97 Jetta GLS auto, 2.0. Anyways here check engine light just came on yesterday when she started up her engine. So I came to have a look and found the vacume line that connects around the top half of the air box poped off and rubbed on the altinator pully. It wore a hole all the way through the line about 1" long. I think this line goes to the air sensor but not really sure what it is. It t's into another line that goes up to the throttle body. I went and got new line and replaced it but I need to reset the check engine light. Is there any way to reset it on a 97 jetta? Or do you need to have it scanned in order for it to be reset? I heard you might be able to take it to a autozone and they will scan it for free and erase the check engine light. Please let me know. Thanks for the help.

Try the Autozone first.
