I brought my RS about a year ago, from my research the 92 RS comes stock with 305 v8 but the car has an 350v8. I have no proble with that but when the car heats up it does not stab out like when i first start the car does anyone have any helpful info to give or any suggestions. Im not a machanic but Im learning how to do some automotive work myself I just know the basics like changing oil, altenator, brakes.

How much of a difference are you noticing? I know theres a slightly noticeable difference in power in my car if its cool outside or if the engine isnt at full operating temp. You haveto remember that when the engine heats up, So does the incoming air and fuel.. An Engine will run most efficiently with cold air and fuel

well the temp gauge reads about half way wich i beleive is the 220 mark, but some time it will go slightly over a bit almost touching the red when I drive a lot, also since its been pretty hot lately maybee thats why. My mechanic rebuilt my radiator 4 me but im wondering if i should go with a 3coil or get a coustom made 4coil both all metal

Well how much of a difference in power are you noticing? Paper filters swell up quite a bit in the heat.. when they swell up they block off air pasages, that plus a dirty filter can really hurt performance.. Switch over to a K&N filter or CAI.. might help you in the hot weather

I had a some what similar problem with my 92. I had knocked off the front spoiler (Under the car) this had caused the motor to run right about the red line on the factory temp guages. I mounted the puppy right back up and the car ran A1.

Yea hes right the missing spoiler can cause the rad to not get enough cool air. That and sometimes the area in front of the rad gets clogged with leaves and junk and can make a big difference.

i thought V8 camaro's already had a 3 row core?
camaro's, especially 3rd gens are prone to overheating, i think it's the way the front end is designed. the radiator is so far from the nose that it's hard to get air to flow through. if you buy a new radiator, i'd suggest a be cool radiator, their made of aluminum and you can get em in a dual 1 inch style. their lighter, stronger, and disipate heat faster than copper

personally, i dont have overheating problems with my third gens used to with the RS, cuz she had lots of problems from years of abuse, but once i fixed the broken parts, she runs fine. IROC even runs cool with a coolant leak lol.

You know what I think that I will switch to a k&n filter and yea the cooling fan works

well I can agree with that im trying to get all of the little stuff squared away so i can get ready for paint I just thing that there is something with the cooling 89iroc&rs what do you think should i get a new radiator if so what kind

hell if you dont fix it and keep driving it
around running 240 degrees it will destroy
your tranny. sounds to me like you need
a coolant system flush. then change
your thermostat and also check your
water pump. the hottest my RS gets is
195-200....305 tbi

I took the thermostat out and I had the coolant system flushed once but the car does not go past 220 it actually gets to exactly 220 or right before it but i've never driven it long enough to reach the red

is it a bad thing to have you're thermostat taken out, or is it alright and if not should i put a new one in
tacoma man.

well if so its running about normal.
my rs is the same way, i have a 195
thermostat in it and my electronic
fan kicks in about 195-200.
and cools it off. is the motor FI?
and does it have the electronic fan
or the clutchfan?

Yes it is a bad thing to run your engine without a thermostat.. Believe it or not, those are there for a reason.. You should get a new 195 degree thermostat put in.. Your engine has to be able to reach normal operating temp. before its running at peak efficiency

if youre running with no thermostat, and its still reaching 220 degrees, id think there was something wrong with it. there is no way to diagnose that problem here, your gonna have to take it to a shop, radiator shop, dealership, somethin, cuz that boy aint right. i mean, even having a thermostat stuck open a bit will keep temps down to 170's, but not having one at all should have it that cool or lower, and your hitting 220 and your fans are turning on keeping it from going higher. somewhere in your system there is a problem, could be hoses, water pump, radiator, i would say thermostat but.... yeah, you need a propor diagnosis of the system for this problem. thats my two cents.
