Stock, no. Modded, yes.

um, unless that mustang has some serious mods, i don't even think this thread is worth the bandwidth it's taking up. :p so if we're talking stock to stock, there shouldn't even be any more discussion as there is no way a mustang GT can hang with a viper.

even with mods i don't know. i have seen supercharged vipers and damm those things are monsters. there is 2 or 3 vipers here in kc that are supercharged and another n/a viper pushing 550 hp at the wheels.

i meant if the mustang had some good mods, a mustang gt can certainly take a stock viper. adding mods to the viper changes the terms a bit more. haha

yeah but then again there are many 550+hp mustangs out there.once mods come into play its anyones game.. hell I knew someone who built a 900~hp turbo 5.0 and I have heard of 1,700~hp(flywheel) stangs. and I dont meen one of those pro-5.0 drag cars w/ a plastic shell and funnycar look... I meen streetlega(well.. maybe not.. but what modded car truely is :P )+full interior car that has a trap speed of about 170mhp

You have to realize one thing...stock Mustang GT's...not the BRAND NEW ones...the old ones had 260HP...and weighed about what...3400 lbs...I dunno..something like that...the Viper has 500HP (the current version) and weighes about 3200 lbs...roughly...so in order for it to beat it...it needs at least equal HP...or some crazy gearing for acceleration

by older ones do u meen the foxbodies? I believe those ugly little basturds weighed like 3200ish also.. hell I have heard some of them weighed about 2800lbs... but I cant argue for or against that fact since im I havent looked into them much.. *shrugs

I dont think there is a $80,000 car out there that cant beat a stock Mustang GT, new or old. But with the $50,000 difference spent on mods, the mustang would probably have a definite edge.

To answer your first question - there are a few 80K that the Mustang could beat. The NSX comes to mind. Close enough to be a drivers race. The BMW 740s is another off the top of my head. Going even higher in the price range you can talk about Rolls'. But, you're right. For 50K in mods in a mustang, you'd have yourself a real rocket.

This is a stupid question.

A Mustang GT with mods can take out ANY stock street legal car.

But there is a limit to the amount of HP you can get...a wall if you will...I mean we arent talking Funny Car drag Mustang here...

And to nbw...I dont mean the boxy ones...I meant the version that is available NOW...not the new one that looks retro and packs a 300HP GT package...the '03 or '04 Mustang GT...same look I think from '99

Just to add, doesn't the World's FASTEST cars, the F1 or the Enzo, stock from the factory do what, 11.0 1/4 miles, I know many cars that can beat that for far less... if you want to talk about a "wall" as far as I have heard/think 9sec quarters are pretty much the plateau for street cars... street tires, normal interiors, etc.

fastest street legal stock car would be the the Koenigsegg CCR. 2600lb's 800hp. IIRC it is suspected to do something like 9's in the 1/4 mile.
I have seen street legal not tubbed out mustangs do high 8's w/full interior.

if we are talking fastest street car, what about the lingenfelter. what, 6.7 second 1/4 mile. i would like to see a street car take that.

it was a 8.95 all street car

This is absolutely out of question...When not tuned, the Viper would smoke the Mustang but if you're talking about a particular and tuned Mustang, then the terms of business change inevitably.

How did the conversation turn out to be about the fastest street-legal car? Let's not digress ;)

sometimes threads have a habit of doing that. see it all the time. sometimes gets annoying.

Dumb thread.

Stock for stock the Mustang GT can barely take out my car, the Viper is a whole other plateau...

Mod's, well that's a stupid whole new topic that could be arued until the end of the world without going any where.

The mustang gt will easily get beat by the viper. Heck, even the cobra will give up 3-4 tenths in the quarter on a viper. But I can't wait until 2006 when Ford plans to drop a 500 horsepower supercharged 5.4L engine in the SVT Cobra.
