Ferrari 450 Modena Concept

Just trying out sketching concepts for about 1 hour and came up with this:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/118193Ferrari_Concept.jpg

Reminded me of the 360 Modena, so I stuck a Ferrari badge on it and turned it into a ferrari :). Took about 25 mins.

Please comment.

Thanks,

Ross.

Reminds me of an Opel or a Peugot concept

It looks like a ferrari to me. Maybe if you clean it up and send it they'll build it. But..............that would be a longshot...

lol, I think I'd have more chance winning the lottery 20 times in a row. I'll probably try brushing it up with PS when I get it.

I don't like it....

It intimidates some people..............................

It says 250 Modena...

I like it too, though the badge is a bit big.

Hmm, I don't see any Ferrari in it. Still looks neat!!!

Oh and they already passed 450, they're currently at 612.

Usually, this is not for every drawing, but usually, the opposite side of the car (the car's right) should be darker.

Two other things. Try adding more contrast.
Second, it looks like the drawing is a bit on the small side (thick lines). Get some bigger paper, which won't restrict you at all. Then you should loosen up. Keep it loose, draw with your arm, not your hand.

cool concept. but the rims and logo are a little big, maybe?

I like it, better than any design I could come up with.

Perhaps a wider body would be nice. IMO

Thanks for the comments. I'll make the image bigger and stretch it to make the body a bit wider, then I'll print it off, and try tracing it with my whole arm, and then I'll fix the shading, try some smaller rims and put a smaller ferrari badge on the front :). Thats about it I think.

Hey AnsisK, look at this: http://www.fast-autos.net/ferrari/3606.html and you'll see the resembalance.
Also, Its supposed to be a 450 Modena not a Scaglietti. Anyway, not all Ferrari's look the same.

you should try to make a longer and a wider body, more realistic!

Okay, I see it a bit better now.

Ferrari generally follows a sequence of numbers, similar to Porsche's 9-hundred naming system. For instance, theres was the 328, then they made the 348. A couple years later they made the 355. Then the 4's and 5's. They also threw in the 360, acting as the successor to the 355. I also think that your 460 is rather close (hence causing confusion) to the 456 series.
Well, naming is a minor detail that comes later in the design progress.

OK, I'll change the name. I'm working on an update, about three times bigger that the one you see now. Hopefully get it to you soon.

Thanks,

Ross.

Here it is. Takes up a full A4 piece of paper. Changed the rims, left air intake and left light, made it wider, new badge and its now called a 540 Modena :D.

EDIT: Forgot to post the pic lol,

Any better?

Thanks,

Nicer design features and technique. Just some other minor stuff left to change. I'd say change up the front grille. Having it as wide as the entire front lip is rather useless, I'd say scrap the middle bit and leave the two intakes on the side. Another design bit, I'd avoid such bubble-like greenhouses. The windshield it self can be rounded, and can pull out towards the nose, like the F1, but in general, that only stays with the windscreen, not the entire roofline.

Some other things, I like the wheels waaaaaay better than the old ones. The car has nice shoulders, hence a stronger presence. Just a couple other crits:

The reflections on the windows should be more light than dark. They are reflecting the sky (or ceiling) which is naturally bright at day. If the car was seen at night, then all of the features should be darker. Another thing to note. This is a rather abstract example:

Okay, this goes for some surfaces. Look at your arm, if you're old enough (:P) you have a bit of arm hairs. If you look straight at your arm, you see them scattered about, pretty equally. Let this represent the paint of the car. Now, place your fist in front of your face as if punching your own face. Look down, past your hand towards your elbow. Now that colour is carker, right? The same sort of thing goes for certain materials in car manufacturing. I tend to use this sort of effect on the extreme left and extreme right parts of my cars. It sort of make the car rounder and makes it seem like it's coming out of the paper. BUT!!! Once again, if you're old enough, you've learned about glass and it internal point of refletion. This is how fiberoptic wires work. Again, a glossy surface, at its edges can be brighter than the rest of the surface, depending on where the light is coming from.

Oh, and a little detail that also adds a sense of weight in the car is:

Add an undershadow. This is a very early thing you need to develop. It doesn't need to be too big, then you see the grain, but just enough to see the undershadow.

Thanks for all that! I forgot about the undershadow lol.

Hey, after reading numerous articles, it turns out that the next Modena will be 400/420/430. So you were closer than me :D

Ra_15

lol, I wonder if it will look the same...

That's good, but I prefer your drawings when you copy a pic. I'm triyng me too to create my own desings in 3D (easier from the side view), but like you probably know, it's more difficult than taking a photo as a reference.

? corght you brought up a dying thread.... watch out mike and tim will get you for this

AnsisK

The next Modena will be probably very good. Considering it is very crucial to not kill the name, the rebirth of a great car is rahter hard. Pinin has made the most elegant design ever, yet lately, they really suck (that Elise-based roadster).

Lets resurect dead threads such as this one...It makes everyone mad.

Now let's let it rest in piece...

Corght, youre fine. Carry on.

If i am correct, ferrari is in the making of the new 430 Monza concept... i'll try to find some secret pics of it.

I've seen a bunch of spy shots, but they are super-mocked up. The main shapes and conponent were caried over to the test mule I saw.

Its supposedly got a retractable rear spoiler, and uses design features from the 612. Its also got a 450bhp 4.2-litre V8 to compete with the gallardo.
