another noob advice question

I'm getting ready to buy a new daily ride, and I'm looking for something with nice 0-60. If I'm going to mod, it's going to be later, so I need something w/ decent accel right out of the box. I'd like something newish ('90-'04), import or domestic, doesn't matter, but the big thing is the price range. I'd like to keep it under 10k. I won't really be competitively racing it anytime soon...

A while ago I was thinking about a v6 stang because I can get one w/ under 40k miles for about 7k, but the stock 190hp seems pretty weak. I had also considered a 2000+ eclipse, mazda mx6, hyundai tiburon, or a turbo 300zx but the 300zxs in my price range always seem to have 100,000+ miles on them..

Also, what's the most cost-effective and cheapest mod to affect 0-60 times?

Any ideas? Thanks

that question is pretty broad, man.

i mean be more specific, do you want a sedan for hauling your drunk mates around or a coupe to woe the ladies, etc?

p.s: google is your friend

If you're interested in 0-60 times, I would look into an eclipse gsx or eagle talon tsi awd. They responde well to mods and you should be able to pick one up fairly cheap. Just my :2cents:

Whats a good 0-60 MPH time for you?

High 7s - Golf GTI 150 HP
Low 7s - Civic SI 99 160 HP
Mid Sixs - Eclipse or Stang GT 98

go DSM, they usualyl are the cheapest, they have a good go stock, and take well later on down the road.

i nissan 240 sx would be a bad go either, theres a lot of potential in those, just takes a bit of money to see it.

no question. Can't beat for the money a awd car thats turbo with as much potential as a gsx.

.... no bias here of course....

How about a '93 - '98 Mustang GT ??

That'll fit in the budget, and should give you room to do an intake and exhaust to the car. Stock they run good 0-60 times. Take your time before buying the first thing that comes along though, alot of these cars have had the shit bagged out of them. Research them carefully before looking at them.

Something a little out there, but would make a good sleeper, would be a '94 Bonneville SSEi...fantastically fun, fast sedans. Respond quite well to mods. There was a guy on here a couple years back with one that he upped the supercharger in, did the intake and exhaust and few other things and was running between 5.8 and 6.3 0-60 times if i remember correctly.

I would still stick with the awd dsm over a 93-98 stang GT.. 93 GT isnt a bad choice but dollar for dollar and overall speed he would be better with a awd dsm...
your other option though with the bonneville... prob cost more in long run but lot o' room in that car for when your not going fast.............

Go for the lt1 or l98 corvettes im sure you can find a 90,91, or even a 92 in that price range.

corvette 0-60
90 5.7
91 5.3
92 5.7

if your looking for something reliable quick and easy to modd get a honda, the aftermarket world is huge on performance parts and there not that pricey. if you want to keep it under 10k there are many ways to go such as a 2500 hatch and spend the rest on modds or a 95 gsr for probabley 7000 I think its the fastest year and spend the rest on modds

Don't mean to go off-topic, but for god's sake, use some punctuation. It's painful to read your posts three and four times just to try to figure out what you're trying to say.
