2000 Silverado Keyless Entry

The signal from my factory FOB's does not seem to be getting through to my 2000 Silverado. No matter how close I am to the truck I cannot lock or unlock using the remote. I thought it might be the battery (4 yrs using same FOB) so I tried my spare which has only been used a couple times, but still no luck. I am able to enter the programming mode by holding down unlock on the door and turning ignition off/on; off/on...but when I hold both buttons on FOB down no response from truck. Any ideas other then getting under the dash to check the receiver?? Could the receiver have just come lose?

Either way...she is 4 yrs old with 115k...and thus far NO problems...at all! I am hoping this isn't the first! The factory brake pads even lasted until 108K!!

Since this is my 1st post...quick info on the truck...2000 Ext. Cab Silverado, 5.3, K&N, Flowmaster 40 series with dual tips, and new Goodrich AT TA's...285's! :D

Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions.

I would really check those batteries. Even though the other one hasn't been used much it has been sitting for 4 years too and the shelf life of those watch style batteries is around 5 years. Who knows how long it had been sitting in GM's warehouse too. Start simple and cheap then work up.

I replaced the batteries in the fob and checked the receiver...which seemed to be ok. Anyone have any other ideas before I have to pay the dealership to tell me it is something simple?

OK Guys here it is straight from Harris the Hawaiian @LVVWD: Make sure everything is off(radio, air, dvd etc) Turn ignition on without starting truck, Do it again, Do it a third time while simualtaniously depressing both buttons on your key fob(this needs to happen at the same time) while still depressing fob buttons turn off ignition. You should hear locks cycle. You have now reprogrammed your lock fob, Congrats...... These systems are notoriously weak here in Vegas they seem to be affected by all sorts of interference(don't know about other regions of US) if the locks don't cycle move the truck you are experiencing interference.....One of my coworkers could not complete this at home but had no problems at work, he does our trucks whenever we experience issues.

tresten...thanks for the info and suggestion...but still no luck. Tried it in a couple different places. The locks will go into programming mode ok...but the truck doesn't seem to receive any signals at all from the fob. The auto-lock @ 15 mph and auto-unlock when key is removed also work just fine. Since i already made sure the receiver is connected ok...is looking more and more like i will have to try getting a new receiver...for some sickening amount of money! At least i wont have to pay for labor to install it.

Anyway...thanks again for the info. I used to have a house in Henderson...sold it a few years ago and thought i made good money on it...lol...who knew it would double in value 2 yrs later!
