Some backyard Gems from my area...(56K warning)

Well lets see here, on my job cruising my city route, I was spotting a ton of old cars that would be pretty kick ass to restore. (to me at least), so I figured I'd take a few pictures of them and post them as 'backyard gems' There are a lot of them in Kern County!

First up: A nice 55 Bel air. It's in perfect restorable condition, despite the picture, the paint and chrome needs work...

Second up: A '57 Bel Air! Also in restorable condition, though a bit rough...

Third up: My wet dream goddamnit! I'd buy this thing right now if I had the money. A '65 Ford Galaxie convertable! Black with red interior, goddamn, throw a big block, (if it doesn't have one already) and have a blower with an enderle scoop sticking out of the hood... very nice.

Fourth up: Either a '66 or '65 fastback. I'd take it, although I like the later fasbacks better. There are probably a dozen or more old mustangs on the route I have...(I think the wagon in front of it is kinda cool too)

Fifth up: A '68 SS Camaro. A real one too I think. Unfortunately for the car, I've met the dumbass that owns it. He pulled up to the gas station in it, (it barely runs), and informed me through several missing teeth that he'd had it since high school, (I doubt he graduated), and he'd never sell it. Meanwhile it rusts away and falls apart because he's a bum with no fucking money to spend on it... I hate it when a bitchin car rusts away because some asshole wont sell it.

Sixth up: I believe it's a '69 GTX. God I'd love to have one of these, even if I hate Mopar now, I love their stuff from the 60's.

Seventh up: A '71, (I think) Duster 340 DROOOOL... I don't know why, but ever since I saw one of these in a muscle car book I've ALWAYS wanted one... but of course I have no money for it. :/ I think this one is another case of 'asshole gets car, asshole has no money to fix it, asshole refuses to sell it and car rusts away into nothing'.

Eighth up: I don't know whether this is a Cuda or a Challenger from the rear, but it still kicks ass.

Ninth up: A rare one indeed! This is a 1971 Plymouth Barracuda. Unfortunately it's an automatic, but it has a 383 with all original miles on it and still runs EXCELLENT. It's never been restored, this is how it's always been. The owner, (I know all this because he was outside and was happy to show everything to me), who is the original buyer and has the window sticker, (it was a little over $4K, that's all I remember). He custom ordered a bench seat in it because he used it for a family car until the mid 80's, when he stopped driving it as much. It has the original spare that has only seen groundtime from Fresno to Bakersfield, once. This would be fucking AWESOME to own.

Tenth up: I think maybe a '67, (I'm kinda rusty on my Muscle car identifying, I must study...) GTO. Not as bad as some I've seen, I'd still take it for a decent price, just to have one to work on.

And last but not least: It's an old Volvo of some sort. I'm only showing this because I think it'd be kinda cool to have a different Hot Rod at a show, this would make a good one.

Anyways, I'll post more of Kerns 'Backyard Gems' whenever I spot them and have my camera with me. You'd be amazed at what lurks in peoples backyards, and sometimes front yards...

You must be kidding?!?! I would much rather have the 727 auto they bolted to those than the crappy manuals they had back then. The 727 is the crème de la crème among Mopar muscle guys as far as transmissions go.

Nice cars, BTW, you should see the nice ones around here. It was amazing, I passed by this house and you would never guess what was parked outside! A damn Toyota Camry, now you don't see those every day. :rolleyes:

Yup, that ebay auction shows just how high Muscle cars are getting in value too. Damn near ANY V8 car from the 60's has their prices going up and the genuine factory optioned cars are going for INSANE prices. 5 bids at almost $46,000? Oh yeah, that's in demand all right!

Actually my dream would be to have a couple of landmark names from each of the big three. A Shelby, Mach 1, or California Special from Ford, (and that Galaxie convertable, I can just see it now, 'HOPPT UP' for a licencse plate and a blower sticking out of the hood...) An SS Camaro, no later than 1970, or (preferably) a Firebird 400 from GM, or a 340 Duster, GTX or 70-71 Roadrunner from Chrysler. Any or all of those would let me die a happy man. One of these days....(before the oil runs out)

Damn, some very good finds, Kansas is nothing but muscle cars, quite a few old Mustangs, Chevelles, and some awesome 40's-50's sedans just rusting away, I found a 67 Mustang w/ the 289 just the other day that I would love to restore, but I don't really think I can afford a project of that scale...maybe I should post some of these cars we have just laying around on farms here.

Man, $40,000 for an all numbers matching 71 Cuda would be a steal in that condition. That is what you'll pay for one that needs a full "body off" restoration.

I'll keep looking around. I know exactly where a '69 Firebird, another '68 Camaro and a '68 Firebird are, I'm just not going to drive out of my way to take a picture of them, I'll get em when I can. :D There's also a junkyard out in Shafter with a ton of old cars. Me and my friends collectively call it, 'Steves Junkyard', since the owner is obviously 'Steve'. The good thing about all of these cars I'm showing you.... this is Southern California in the interior away from the ocean, can you say, 'RUST FREE!' :D

BTW, today I spotted a nice BOATTAIL RIVIERA, another car I'd love to have, sitting in someones driveway. Wanna know something interesting? That makes 2 of them I've seen! I'll take a pic of this one and the other one when I remember where it is. I'd love to own one of those too.
