I am trying to change my opti,,,, I know the first step is to remove the water pump,,,I removed the four bolts to the water pump and cant get it to come off. I read where you have to remove the crank pully is that true,,,,Does anyone know where i can find a diagram for this.

Water pump has a couple locating lugs on it, aluminum and steel joint gets corroded, real tough to break loose. Six bolts?

Good web site:

Therer are six bolts holding the water pump on... You will probably have to remove the A.I.R pump and it's bracket to get the pump off. Don't lose the gear drive coupler that goes between the water pump and block. You might have to take off the crank pulley, but I'm not sure. I had the dealership do the optispark on my car.

Yeah the Air Pump and bracket must come off to get the waterpump off and all waterpumps on LT1 have 6 bolts its just hard to locate the remaining 2 feel around in there with your fingers and you'll find it

Also you will need to remove the crank pulley to get the opti out not the waterpump

crank pully and water pump need to come off. 6 bolts on the water pump. since the opti is bad, inspect the waterpump for leakage around the weap hole as well.

www.delteq.com you'll never have to replace that thing again, hell you won't even have to replace it now. I guess usualy it's the cap and rotor that go on that thing. Check it out, I've heard some good things about it.

I have got it off, the damn thing looks ok to me, I went ahead and replaced the cap and the rotor, Cleaned the photo sensor and put it back together, I will be putting it back on tomorrow, I hope that is my stalling problem.
