side skirt fitment

this is my first post, woot!

My question is about side skirts (black widow) on my 97 civic 2dr. They dont fit too well. Actually, when i tryed to mount them, it seemed like there was too big of a upper lip - It wouldnt fitin other words. I never dealt with putting on side skirts, but i did put on my bumpers with no problems or extra fabrications (Buddy CLub).

Do i have to cut the fiberglass to make it fit or what?

Eh, is it for the right year?

rule of thumb is that parts made for civics years 96-98 are universal so im positive that its the right year.

im gonna ressurect this post with a new question.

has anyone else here bought fiberglass side skirts and had to do a shit load of cutting and shaving to get the skirts to fit in perfectly?
I know that fiberglass kits are massed produced(the cheaper ones persay, idk) out of molds of molds, and always do not fit right and bolt on right away. however i got lucky with my BC rear bumper and R34 front bumper, i drilled holes to match up with original bumper and *dundundun* they fit pretty nice. But shit, these fucking black widow skirts are nasty. Are all sideskirts a bitch to put on? I have some experience with fiberglass and putting things together, but fitting side skirts is hard work to me.

Any other people with common experiences, opinions, anything. Im hoping that this post gets some feedback.

I painted and installed my Feel's FG kit myself with no problem. I used to work at a body kit store and I never had any problems installing customer's kits... actually little problem, but nothing major that I couldnt over come right there in the parking lot. My experiences have all been good. I also worked at a body shop for a short time... aslo had no problems.

I got BW side skirts for my accord and they had a big lip on top of them, so there was a huge space between the skirt and the car. So what i did is i took a sawzall and cut away most of it, but in a wave like pattern. the pieces that were up higher were for drilling onto the car to mount the skirt. Be fore i cut i looked to see where icould leave more of this lip and where i needed to cut it to have minimal space between my car and skirt. Once i got close to what i wanted i took a belt sander and sanded it down to exactly what i wanted.

I really have no idea what you're talking about. Do you have pictures??? You're not trying to install the black widow sideskirts on top of your stock ones, are you? Pictures please.

lol, nooo, of course i took off the old sideskirts. The BW sideskirts just need to be cut, and shaved so the fitment will be perfect. Heres some pics of the skirts. ill show how they match up with the car if anyone is real inquisitive. but here they are by themselves.

heres the pics, i just put up the sideskirts to give you guys an idea shat i should shave off the skirt.

the end will not go flush with the wheel well, i think i have to cut off the part that touches the wheel well that is used for a support.

heres a pic close up notice how it looks fine underthe door jamb, but its uneven with the rest of the car.( i got a half uncompleted half sleeve of the nightmare before christmas)

heres a closer up pic of the problem.

a pic with the door open(nevermind the turtles, change, and taco bell reciept, its what was left of my lunch)
http://home.comcast.net/~sk8am1/dooropen.JPG

the skirt os not flush with the other wheel well cause the back support doesnt let it fit.

And since it isnt flush then you will have to cut off the back piece, and if there is no where to bolt it on after u cut that piece off then i would say try to lengthen it by using a little fiberglass.

whoa, thank you soooo much, thats what i was thinking of doing but was always afriad of cutting off too much ya know. ill be doing what you said, it makes sense. Did you ever have a problem with the skirts getting in the way of shutting your door?

and to answer your question about how to link pics, you do use VB script(i think its what its called, theres some link that describes all the different commands):
say you want to link this site, with this pic http://home.comcast.net/~sk8am1/rear.JPG
you put it in between a beginning bracket[]and an ending bracket[/], kinda like HTML tags <>
you use the "img" tag to link pics.
<img>http://home.comcast.net/~sk8am1/rear.JPG</img>;, but use [] instead.

heres a link to what im talking about that describes it much better than i can, it has other useful tags too.

Actually there is 1/2'' to 3/4'' space from my door to my side skirt, so no iv never had a problem... When cuttin the top part of the side skirt with the waves i was talking about make sure you look it over before you start cutting, cut small pieces at a time and use trial and error, so cut, then hold up to car, cut then hold up to car, etc... and its a good idea to have 1 or 2 people handy to help you hold the skirt up to the car while you look at what needs to be cut. Ill try to get some pics of my side skirt up soon so you know what it looks like.
