well, this is pretty much impossible to answer correctly, there are far too many things that might cause that condition. i would just walk over next door, and ask him again. now if you find out what the problem is, and want to know how much of a headache it will be to fix, then wed be better able to help ya out with that. but there is honestly no way to tell you from simply, it starts but dies. so im not even gonna hazard a guess. especially if your decision to buy it hinges on this repair.

ok, i'm assuming now he's talking about the intake manifold and the egr isn't working properly.

OHHHHHHHHHHHH sounds like a MAF sensor problem. Mass Air Flow sensor, measures the ammount of air coming into the engine, the computer calculates this airflow and injects the correct ammount of fuel to burn proporly, its around 350 bucks. and easy as hell to install. but yeah if that wasnt working then the engine wouldnt run.

or wait, you said it was an RS, then it could be a MAP sensor, Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor, basicly the same thing, but different operating system. cuz its TBI.
