Updated DME relay

Through a set of e-mail conversations, I've come to learn that there is a newer design of the DME relay.
The 944 DME/fuel pump relay has been updated to the 993 relay. PN:993.615.227.00 I have asked many people about the failure rates of the newer design and have come up empty.
Could this be the end of being stranded in the middle of no where w/ no cell service? No, it's just one less thing that could be wrong!
Any comments, thoughts.
