Does anyone have any input on headers for a silverado with the 5.3L v8, what kind of horsepower gains can I expect, and about how much to install them. I'm thinking about installing them myself, or also my school's auto shop class will install any parts for free- is this something that can be easily done without messing up my engine completely if i do something wrong? Any advice would be great, Thanks.

Hey big boy blue 327 5.3 liter!
yea headers tend to give you more bottom end horsepower, probably 20-30 hp. Yes you can install them yourself, they are actually quite easy to do. UGHAHGUHA DUMP

Hey,
I put Borla headers on my 5.3 2wd truck. I didn't notice any increase in power. The engine just got louder.

have 2000 silverado w/5.3L
installead gibson stainless shorty headers and dual 2 1/2 tail swept side cat back had very noticable performance increase and sounded great,

both where easy and bolted right on.

coulden't tell you hp gains they advertise 10-20 for cat-back depending on system.

first system (2 1/2 dual tail) was pretty load and sounded great. but i replaced it after doing lift and tires, (couldn't fit 35" spare with twin tails.)

next was super truck dual tail ,came out in front of rear tire, really load, sounded great at idle and part throttle but sounded REALLY OFFUL at full throttle. but i got some traction bars from rcd and replaced that one too because the tails where hitting the trac bars over bumps.

last one is 3" stainless sweptside, a little loader than stock, sounds nice, just sits against spare tire but at least i can it under the truck and it dosn't get hot enough to melt it..

liked the 2 1/2 twin best for sound so i think i'll modify the tails and see if i can get it to fit with the spare this summer.
3" seams to have a little better low end torque

they are all gibsons hope this helps
