Problems with 02 F.O.R.D.(fix or repair daily) Explorer

I've got an 02 Explorer 4x4 and I've got a problem with it stalling out in the morning. I'll reverse out of my driveway and when I go back into drive the engine will stall out. Usually I can start it up again no problem but sometimes it will take me three or four times and it seems to be getting worse. My warranty just expired and I don't want to spend an arm and a leg to repair this. Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem? Do you know what's the cause of it?

Try cleaning the throttle plate and body. That should do ya.

The throttle plate and body are teflon coated and should not be cleaned.

Yes, Ford did coat the throttle body with a material that was supposed to help keep them from getting sooted. But if it does, you'll still have to clean it, or replace it, whichever is cheaper, whether it's coated or not. And I did clean mine because it was caked up so bad the throttle plate would stick closed. Just be prudent and don't go overboard with the solvents.

Thank's everyone. I'll clean it and post the results.

sounds like a little more than a dirty throttle plate to me. What is the engine idling at when cold in neutral? Also might want to test the coolent temp sensor, that would give the engine the wrong fuel mixture when cold.

Other things to check: fuel pressure regulator, ignition control module
