Too Old for the 350z?

First of all I would like to know when the 2005 model is coming out. I hear rumors about greddy TT - any truth to that?
Anyways, I'm 33 M and considering the 350z (I've been hitting the z forums for about a year, now). All my friends around the same age drive BMW and Mercedes and don't think twice about a car like this. My conservative older sister is adamant about me NOT getting it. I just don't think myself driving a boring Benz that you see on the road everyday or BMW. I wanted a vortech supercharger setup with a veilside 3 kit. My sister and couple of girls I know thought it was ridiculous. Even some of the dudes that it was too much. I think it's badass, but in a dilemma. Remember, I have to drive this thing for about 5 years and my old ass will be 38. I also have a 99 4Runner that I'll be keeping. Inputs appreciated.

Don't worry what other peolpe think. If you want( and can afford ) the 350Z, by all means go get it. And enjoy it, because there are poor 21 year old girls like me who desperately want one but cannot afford one!!!!!! :smokin:

Hey Grim
I'm 38 going on 39 this month. I have a 350Z with 19" Axis supermesh wheels, a custom exhaust that sound unbelievable, springs and now I'm working on the intake. The think looks good, sounds good, it corners very well and it goes just fine. I've had up to 150MPH twice and have no complaints about the car. I've had people take pictures of it while I'm driving on the highway and at gas stations and get tons of compliments. If you buy one and put all that stuff into it, those BMW and Mercedes will be looking at your rear licsence plate. Go by what makes you happy not what makes other people happy, your are driving it, not them. I heard a few people say that the car is not practical. That is such crap when people talk like that. To me they don't know what the heck they are talking about. I have a friend that owns a 911 GT-2 and he love the dam car. So get the dam car and have fun. :iceslolan :iceslolan :iceslolan :iceslolan

I think I'm in the wrong forum to get a truly an objective answer LOL :D
But I'm about 80% sure about getting the z. Here are some other cars that I've considered and comments.
RSX - Good styling, but a bit under powered.
S2000- too small (I'm 6) a lot of nice after market parts available, though. Again, underpowered for the price range.
WRX- A car that needs to be shown respect. If I were to go with 4 door, this might be it
'05 Mustang - gorgious car. Hate to say it, but I think it actually looks better than the z, but I still question ford's logivity, relative to imports
'05 Supra - My one and only heavy-weight contender against the 350z. It won't be revealed until the Auto show in Japan, this October.

Grim, if it was up to me, I would go with the Supra hands down.
For the Mustang, I would get nothing else but the Saleen, my friend George has a Mach 1 and it does not do anything for me. Not to crazy about a for vehicle unless it has a Cosworth engine in it.
The STI, yes it's got power, more than the Z, but do not like the way it sounds when it idles. Sounds like it's miss fireing. I would pick the EVO ove the STI. You are right about the S2000. The RSX is defenetly a cool looking car. If it had another 50 hp. That would have been the car I would have gotten. I've owned Hondas and never had problems and are very reliable. Grim you seem like a inteligent man I'm sure you will make a smart and wise choice. I just got back from Manhattan. I was down there for the Players Run and there was a 350Z with a Vortech Supercharger, StopTech brakes, 19" BBS wheels and all sorts of cool stuff in it. I believe he said it was pushing 347RHP to the rear wheels which is good enough for me. He defently pulled away in the thing. We were screaming in the streets of Manhattan but we also creeped in some areas because of the pot holes. I was very impressed with the Supercharger, I never heard one running and it defenetly sounded good.
Good luck with your choice, let us know how you made out.

If you don't want to ruffle your friends/family's conservative feathers, buy the Z, but skip any kind of silly body kit or ridiculous rims. You can still have a kick-ass, fast car without that crap anyway.
Besides, you have to drive the car on a daily basis, not them. If you know you won't be happy in an MB or a BMW, then don't get one. I can't wait to get a Z. Unless of course, Toyota comes out with an even better Supra. Having to choose between a Z and a Supra, now that's a nice problem to have.

GReddy made a single turbo Z... Not TT.
Its MSRP is $42,000
BAH. Not worth it.
My advice... G-G-G-G-G-G35. Haha
G35 is like the 350Z's 2+2. I am after one.

Don't worry, I see lots of older people driving Z's. Keep in mind that the Z cars built up quite a fanbase back in the 70's, so most of the young people who bought it back then are in their 40's and 50's now. And a lot them have bought 350Z's. But if you want to keep your family's conservative image by buying a luxury car, go with the G35 coupe. It is very, very similar to the 350Z, just a little slower and a little more luxo.

My MOTHER just turned 50 and she is the proud owner of a 350Z! Now if she was driving around in a riced out Civic then I think that would be a little ridiculous but she looks great in the Z. She loves the look on the grocery bag boys faces when the take her stuff out to her car.
Your only in your 30's anyway. Stop whining!

Hello All!
Thanks for all the input. It's been very helpful to get such diverse perspective. I'm really jonesing for a new car right now, but I will have to wait til what the Supra will look like and also, it's specs - in Oct. at the Tokyo Auto show. If I decide on the z, it'll be a '05 model. One of my close friend's getting the '05 BMW M5 (500 HP). I told him to get it around the same time as me, so we can take it to the tracks and race. After I put in my Vortech charger and 75 shot of NOS, of course. It'll be a good race, but I think he'll pull ahead around 3rd and up.

well, I don't want to be going around thinking I'm cool while everyone's thinking otherwise. Jas M, When your broke booty get to a point where you're financially able to graduate from your little civic, you'll understand.

Your never too old for a Z. Get the Tack model. Not only is it sporty, but its respectible, and classy at the same time. Oh, and Greddy did come out with a TT kit. So did Power Enterprise.

Can't do much better for the money. I've heard that they are making the suspension even worse on the new mustangs to make it less expensive. As for the supra, I'm sure its gonna be in the 40-50k price range and with that kind of money I'd rather get get an m3.

G35 is the way to go when you want the performance with a luxury/mature appoach. They are close the same price, same engine, but with the G35 has the snob factor that BMW and Mercedes do.

Yeah the supra will be in the same price range as the m3, I personally would much rather have a M3 if your looking to spend that kind of cash!
as for the 350z vs your buddys m5;
350z:
Power: 287hp.
Torque: 274 ft-lbs.
Curb Weight: 3188 lbs.
M5:
500hp v10
~4000 lbs (based on 00' m5)
stock you would be close to keeping up with him in the low end, i would imagin you could pull on him in the upper with the supercharger if its not lighter than i think it will be.
