Amps and Subs

I need to know some info about amps and subs. First what would you reccomend me to use or what is the best for both amps and subs? Second how do I know if the amp is supplying enough power to the sub or maybe too much? What are the RMS and OHMS? Thanks talk to you soon.

Here's some car audio 101 for you. RMS stand for "root mean squared" which probably means nothing to you. RMS is the constant musical power input/output that a speaker/amp can handle or supply with minimal distortion. RMS is usually about half of the peak power handling. Peak power is the amount of power in a musical peak like a drum beat. If you have your gain up too high on an amp, the constant power (RMS) will be over the amps capacity which causes distortion and excessive heat. Both of which are BAD. Distortion can blow your speakers just as easy as sending too much power to them. OHM's is a rating for the amount of resistance that a speaker will put to an amp. It is important that your amp is propperly matched for the OHM resistance of your speaker setup. A 4 OHM speaker has twice the resistance of a 2 OHM speaker. Meaning that if your amp is rated for 100 watts RMS x 2 channels at 4 OHM's and you put a 2 OHM speaker on each channel, it would essentially double the power output of your amp to 200 watts RMS x2, at least it would double on a good amp. Now your amp has to be able to handle a 2 OHM load or else it will blow. Also, if your amp is rated for 2 OHM's stereo, then it can only handle 4 OHM's bridged. Most class D sub amps can handle 2 OHM's mono which means big power. My amp is rated at 280 watts RMS, but is pushin more like 750 watts RMS and 1500 watts peak. Jus t go get you two nice 4 ohm 12 inch subs rated at 900 watts peak and 500 watt rms and a 1000 watt 2 ch 4 ohm amp it will provide about 350 watts rms to each channel then turn your gain half way up in you will be in the game.
