95 Monte Carlo 3.1, last week while idling in the driveway my girlfriend noticed her temp gauge climbing so we popped the hood and found coolant running out near the water pump. yesterday i found the energy to put on a new water pump. did that, refilled the radiator and let it sit and idle for awhile to make sure it was good when her gauge started climbing again. she said it never used to go above the halfway point, and it was approaching three quarters. the only thing i saw was that the fans were not kicking on. any ideas about this would be greatly appreciated.

The same thing just happened to me (I have a 96). Had to replace the water pump and get a new CPM. Apparently the driver in the CPM responsible for powering the fan went bad. Let me know if this helps.

I had the same problem with my monte. there should be a wire connector on the right side of the right fan at the bottom. make sure that it is plugged in. If it's not do so because the fans are not coming on to cool the engine. The idiots who replaced my alternator unplugged it so when I went to get emmisions i failed cuz my car overheated.

Where is the CPM located and what the main purpose of it?

My son's 96 monte is suffering from symptoms described in this post. Please excuse the ignorance, but what is the CPM initials for and what does it do?

Thanks!!
