Bad cylinder valve

I have a miss in my engine from what I'm pretty sure is from bad cylinder valve/valves. How much could this be effecting the acceleration and speed of my car?

If you lose a cylinder, it will make your V8 run like a 6 1/2 cyl. Why do you think its a valve problem, over an ignition related problem?
