quick - trans. oil pick

hi, would anyone happen to know what transmission oil should be used with a chrysler lebaron 1984 automatic transmission, no turbo, 4 door...i heard that you shouldn't use valvoline-dextron/mercon...not sure if that is with new cars or old or both. i think penzoil is fine but i wanna be sure cause i don't want to damage my trans. as i am just repairing it 550$!...-thx for any help
