someone please help. I have researched this a bit. My 95 non turbo engine has blown. Some people say that is can be replaced with an infiniti J30 engine. I know that they have the same engine but my questions is if i have to change some of the things on the J30 engine to make it work for the 300zx. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Same engine, but the ECU/M must be changed out as well. The J30 ECU/M is set for a luxerious lower HP setting, restricting air flow. 190HP. 300ZedX's HP for the VG is set at 222hp.
It will be MUCH easier to find another ZedX engine... But it wont be any cheaper either way.

ALSO... the J30 engine is slightly detuned for luxury duty... do as the boyo above said!

Dude, just get a 300ZX VG30DE engine. Make SURE it's the same transmission type as your present model... There are small differences in the two engines.
It will cost the same anyways, so dont worry.

Using a J30 engine will work and you do not need the ecu. The ecu from the 300 will work. I dont care what anyone tells you it will I changed mine with a 94 J30 and it works just fine. There are a few things you do need to change. Use the intake manifold from the 300 as the J30 will not work, the intake tubing from the 300, the exhaust manifolds from the 300, the oil pan from the 300 but the dipstick is coming from the other side of the block on the J30 so you will have to close the opening and drill another hole on the right side and use the pan from the 300 also the oil collector from the 300 needs to be put on the J30. Thats something I didnt figure out until I had swapped the engine already. The water inlet and outlet tubes needs to remain the same from the 300. The idle air fuel controller relay needs to be changed which is mounted on the timing belt cover loacted on the top left of the cover and has two connectors going into it. The crank angle snesor located on the opposite side directly across from the idle air fuel controller relay needs to be from the 300. Everything else is just putting the engine in. Its not fun but you can save alot of money on using a J30. I found one for $500.00 with 64,000. All the 300's I found averaged about $1500.00. The horsepower from the J30 is less but only because of more resrictions which will be takin out once you replace the exhaust manifolds, intake pipes which are almost a foot longer and the intake manifold. When I changed mine I didnt notice any horsepower drop only a better running engine for cheap. Good luck.

Or just do a VG30DETT swap with some ball bearing turbos.
But thats me.
Carry on.

i think u r assuming he is machanically inclined. well mechanically inclined. i dont know if he is or isnt but if he isnt he might as well spend the extra cash and get the 300zx engine and call it a day. 500 compared to 1500 sounds all gravy if u do it all yourself. u add labor charges and your askin for a empty wallet,

I'm not a mechanic but I do know my way around vehicle's. All I was doing was answering a question. I do know that one way is cheaper than the other if you figure that if you add 500.00 plus labor and 1500.00 plus labor one way is cheaper. All I'm trying to say that it is possible and that you can usually find a J30 for a lot cheaper and the engine would most likely be in better shape due to most people that own J30's don't race them. Either way it's not cheap but I'm just trying to help with the question and help save money at the same time.
