hey i was looking into putting a aftermarket deck and speakers in my 1990 lumina but most stores where i go to buy the deck tell me there is no point in doing it as it is to much work to put in a new deck and 6 speakers? has anyone done this before and if so can u give me some idea of how much work is involved . thanks in advance :grinno:

G'day. I have a 1990 Lumina as well, and I installed an aftermarket deck in it, no problem. I just went to Canadian Tire, (I can't remember if they are out there or not. You are from B.C. aren't you?) and bought an adapter kit to use to fill the big hole those factory things need. It took a little while to figure out the instructions, but that was the hardest part. Actually the deck looks really sharp in there and you would almost think it was original, the adapter kind of blended everything in nicely. The only other thing I got was a wiring harness. It allowed me to join the factory wires to one end of the harness, the other end simply plugged into the deck. Oh yeah, I might have needed a short extension for the antenna cable. It took me part of an afternoon and I'm no electronic whiz. As far as speakers go I'm afraid I'm not much help, but I'm sure something could be done.

In Order To Change The Speakers In The Dash All You Have To Do Is Remove The Bolts (6 I Think)that Hold The Dash Panel In Place . Just Look Below The Dash Panel...they Go All The Way Across. Then Just Pop The Dash Out...it Is Just Held In With Clips After Bolts Are Removed. All I Did Was Cut The Connector And Put On My Own To Match The Speakers...maybe You Will Get Lucky And It Will Be The Same Connector. As For The Back They Can Be Accessed Through The Trunk And The Size Of Em Are 6 X 9". Most 6x9 Will Fit In The Hole And Still Be Able To Use Clip To Hold Em Up...hope This Helps.
