Hey I have an 89 crx and would like to give it a removeable hardtop sometime in the future. What are your opinions? Do it? don't do it? and also what would be a good way to go about doing it? Doing the body work won't be a problem, my cousin works in a body shop and will help me. Thanks for the input.

I vote no. You will have to find a way to weather strip it very well or you'll get leaks all the time. Also the big thing is the doortops because you'll have to cut those also or it will look funny.

So company in canada does this...they can make a convertable kit car type looking thing out of a 88-91 crx/civic. I call it a kit car even though when I orgiannly saw it it was called a "body kit" bescause...well...they have to start hackin into the frame, etc...it's no simple bolt on body kit...still, I can look for the info if you want me to...the company is based in Onterio, Canada I believe.

Its not as simple as you think it is. It involves chassis reinforcement.

Chop your top and your car will most likely buckle in if you don't reinforce it.

As for the idea...neh, i don't like it.

Yeah, like I said above...I call it a CRX kit car "kit." In terms of body, it requires chopping up the chassis, frame etc...so it's no simple task. In the end, it's someting if you wanted done, I'd only want those guys doing it, as it was there design. If you see pics, you know right then it's no simple task.

reinforming the frame is easy. You could remove the entire window frame and have the glass seal againt weather stripping (like cameros, could probably modify the weather stripping from it). As for the removeable top you could allways by trim from an S2000 top as it is very similar and use the weather stripping from an S2000 top also with a little modification. I say do it.
