leaking oil seals

My wife has a 94 GEO tracker. I believe we have a rear oil seal leaking.
A friend told me to try auto transmission sealer in the oil to see if it softenes up the oil seals.

I would like some other opinions. Yes or NO, and Why. Any advise would be appreciated.

I know enough to know this would not cure my problem but i'm just trying to reduce oil consumption more than i have now.

i'd say if you feel the car has alot of usefull life left in it, get it fixed properly and not dump that junk in your motor.

But if it is a beater which is near the end of its life, then what the hell, give it a try!

Thanks for the reply. I am going to fix it eventually. But for now my wife lost her job and i'm on a fixed income. I take it by your reply that you think the idea of adding trans sealer is junk. Do you have a better temporary solution to the problem?

nope, no other solutions. maybe use a thicker oil, but that can only do so much. I'm sure you would want to get a second opinion other than mine. I am just a automotive school dropout. But from what I know those sealers do not do the engine or anything else you pour it in any good in the long run.
