does anybody on here have a '99 mustang cobra SVT? i hear they have a recall on the exhaust, intake manifold, and the ECU. i was thinking about getting one for a daily driver and i was wondering if i should let that recall influence me to go elsewhere. any opinions?

interesting... i just bought one 2 weeks ago exactly. i love the car altogehter mainly because its my first RWD vehicle.

on to your question: bad news- To my knowledge the recall work has a deadline to be completed. I have only contacted and asked one Ford dealership, so I dont know if that truly is the case.

Recalls do not have a time limit.... I had an recall done on my 87 GT that started in 90. No one had ever had the recall done on the car before so even though it was 11 years after(2001) they still had to do it.

As I recall (no pun intended), it was mostly concerned with the routing of the serpentine belt, although there was some exhaust work.

thanks that is very helpful. here comes a free 15 horses or whatever it is!

i do love my 99 cobra, everything but the seats and the GAS consumption. i live in florida its too darn hot for leather.

are there two different versions of the 99 cobra svt or something? because i'm looking at two different black 99 cobra SVTs and one has a pony grille insert...and the other has a cobra. the one with the pony has lighter headlights...and the one with the cobra has darker fogged looking headlights. i think the white cobras all came with the cobra insert but i'm not sure. could someone clear this up?

i have a white cobra and it has the cobra emblem up front. if you are ever unsure about a particular model, i would look up the VIN.

are the headlights fogged?

they look pretty normal, actually kinda weathered look.
they are not the dark backround ones that you see.

you can either use those websites or you can go to the ford motor company website and look for recalls in there i found one for my 88 mustang and they have no time limit so they are pissed that they have to do it!

The 99 Cobras had silver housing for the headlights, in 2000(Cobra R) and up, they went to a black housing. No Cobra came stock with a Cobra in the grille. I put one on mine. You can also get smoked headlight covers. 99's and Cobra R's also say Mustang on the rear bumper instead of Cobra

In the search field, type in "cobra grille emblem"
Should be the second result down, $29.95.

The headlight covers are made by GTS (sp?). If you wanted it to say Cobra, then you'd need a new bumper.

so has anyone actually done the recall thing? how long do you think it'd be in the shop for?

All 99 cobras came with the clear/chrome headlights. It does not matter what color it is. It wasn't till 2001 did they have the blackouts. As Far as the Cobra in the grille insert & the Honey comb pattern. That is not stock. 99+ Up cobra have an open grille and mustangs in the center. It want to tell apart a fake cobra, just look under the car. The 99+ Cobra have the IRS which means they have a different exhaust from all other mustangs. The Exhaust run from the cat then under the IRS not over like the solids. It makes for an easy exhaust upgrade.

Best way to spot a Fobra is the 8th digit of the VIN, should be a V-code for the 320 HP 4.6L DOHC V-8 in your year.
