Disrespect at jiffy lube

I was driving around, and I realize that I needed an oil change. I go there, and pull up to the bay. I sit down, and ten minutes later my oil change is done. I had just bought new fog lights and silverstars for my car, and I had left the boxes in my back seat. My car is also lowered, and has an aftermarket shiftknob. I'm guessing the guy saw all of this, and here's an overview of what he says to me.

"I wouldn't even spend any money on it dude just drive it. It's not like it's a silvia, or a skyline" WTF!!!!

I hadn't even said anything about fixing up my car. Just out of no where. It didn't really hit me till I left, but it pissed me off so bad that I wanted to go back, and tell him off. Totally uncalled for, and it really ticked me off. What should i do about this asshole?

It sounds like some joker who heard a few car terms and decided that since it's "just" a sentra, it's not worth it.

Go kick his ass.

Yes, they also know how to accidentally drop a small wrench down a manifold and not claim responsbility after the engine chews on it for a bit and blows up.

Change_your_own_oil. That's my only advice. You should have told him to politely mind his own business where his advice on your car is concerned. Then give him the :thefinger and told him to do more OIL CHANGING than appraising your car.

In all my dealings with drive in oil change places, the staff generally has no clue. I have never trusted them with my car for anything, and have always changed my own oil. This tells me the oil change guy has 1: never driven a car with good headlights and 2: doesn't recognize the SER is anything different than a standard Sentra.

"His comments burned my feelings worse than McD' hot coffee burned that poor lady's lap" .... I think you should sue.
At the very least, I would write to the management of the Jiffy Lube.

Really it has nothing to do with which version of the Sentra he owns. It all boils down to respect.

Example: I was attending a car show in Morro Bay once... a guy a few years younger than me compliments the car, then he jokes about "wanna race?". I say "What do you have?" and he points to a '91 Sentra. Rather than laughing at him 'cause I thought my shit was so cool I inquired about his car to see if he was serious. He laughed it off and was only kidding. But I took the respectful way of doing things and asked him if he was serious and asked about his engine, etc. Rather than hearing "Sentra" and thinking "Pile of shit".

I think you should just go tell the manager that they've lost a customer because his mechanic insulted you.

You'll get a free oil change at least and the dick-head will get fired.

What landyacht said. Any manager who's worth a damn shits himself when he hears "I'm going somewhere else, and I'm spreading the word."

Did you get the guys name? Write a letter.

jiffy lube do they even know anything about cars besides drain and fill? I used to work at one of those kind of places and trust me there is no kind of on the job training what so ever! I only had grade 11 mechanics and I was one of there prize employees becuase I knew more about cars than my own manager we even offered more than oil changes, he had to ask me how to change the fuel filter on a 96 ford f-150 do your own oil changes you will be much better of in the long run

i had an intersting experience at the oil change place yesterday too. first, the one guy was kinda impressed by the exhaust i had on my car :icon16: and asked where i got it from then said he was looking for one for his Ford Contour. didn't laugh, just smiled to myself.

but anyways, the other guy that was fighting with the filter couldn't get it on  i've had trouble getting it off, but never on. so i'm kinda worried now, but i guess we'll see what happens.

as far as the whole deusche bag "mechanic", don't worry about it...just don't go back there and change the oil your self...funner and cheaper

after a thousand oil changes it's not fun it's a chore.
but not a chore that is difficult.

I change my own oil (most of the time). I hate going into oil change places and being treated like "some chick in her ritzy Infiniti"... It's a DAMN SENTRA SE-R WITH LEATHER!!! I know it, so don't act different around me. Not to mention that they always try to tell me that 'such and such is leaking' and I respond with... well, if you hadn't loosened the 'such and such cap' then it wouldn't be.

The sad part is they really do that! I know I was asked on several occasions to do that. Im glad I never did, one of the other guys got caught by a safety inspectior OHAS and he reported it to the BBB. Oh shit did he get screwed!

Right, it's an SE-R, with different tranny, frame, body panels, motor mounts, seats, exhaust, suspension, brakes, etc.. :screwy:
The only thing they share is 1: the engine and 2: the shift knob.
No disrespect to the SE-R, I LOVE Sentras, but c'mon Tangie don't perpetuate this BS!!

Unfortunately i'm one of those guys...but i spend the extra money and take it to a REAL mechanic to get it done.

I used to do it myself, but i no longer have the access to the tools i need to do it. Not to mention the proper jack to get the ol' girl off the ground!!

I do all my own work at my house, I have an issue with teenage kids who dont care about your car Changing oil etc... Ive heard way too many stories about loose filters and places not putting the plug back in, My girlfriend had her brakes fixed at midas and they forgot to bleed the brakes..WTF... So Now I do the maintenance on her Car. I feel bad for the guys who know what they are doing cause the morons give them a bad name.

yea those lubie guys dunno what they are doing. I wouldn't take my car to get an oil change there, they use a cheap general oil filter. I'd rather buy the stock oil filter and your own oil (Castrol GTX or mobil one) and let someone else put it in so you are getting quality oil filter+oil put in. I personally just change my own oil, since I have these lil ramps on my driveway, don't even need to jack my car up.

Yea though those ppl piss me off, one of my relatives (second cousin's husband) works at a nissan dealership. I was just asking him simple questions like how much it would cost to do bodywork (kouki conversion) and all of a sudden he's like "oohhhh don't spend money on your car, don't try to be a big dog. You are a small dog, don't try to be big. Don't bark with the big boys. If you want a nicer car save up and buy a more expensive one" :screwy: I dunno what that meant "small dog" or "big dog" I just wanted to make my car look nicer, I guess workin at a dealership fried his brains or something.

Why even bother doing anything?

He made a comment, that's all. You're acting like he keyed your car or put sugar in your gas tank. One measily Jiffy lube guy doesn't like your car, get over it.

Yeah, go back and kick his ass so you can get charged with assault. Or better yet, make him lose his job so he can come after you and do something to your car. :disappoin

Do your own oil changes from now on  Other than that go back to jiffy lube and tell him that he can comment on your car when he becomes a real mechanic...
