I just did a battery replacement for my 1998. I found a replacement 79-series battery hard to come by at any place except for a GM Dealer or an AC Delco retailer...$106 at that. All I did for mine was keep the vent hose from my old battery and transfer it to the new one. It was an exact match and fit on fine with no problems.

There is supposed to be an updated vent tube but my dealer parts counter couldn't find it. One guy then told me $60- I think just to get me out of there...

I went to the local hardware store and bought some rubber fuel line and a couple of SS worm gear clamps. I just shortened the little plastic tube on one side using a copper tubing/pipe cutter I had laying around (to make sure everything was straight and not crimped) and patched it back up. I think it all ran me $4. I first tried heat shrink tubing over the joint but it didn't seem very well sealed at all. Just take your plastic vent tubing with you and see what hose they have that fits over it snugly.
