I just got a 1989 240sx. Most of the body has good paint, but there are a few small dings(not dents). Whats the best way to get rid of them?
Also whats an estimate to replace the dashboard(cracks in it) and the carpeting?
I got the car (200k miles) for 1800$ was it worth it?

200k miles for 1800 is NOT worth it. i paid 1700 for my 240 with 92k miles, in great condition.

yeah i dont think it was worth it either. But have no fear my friend, u could do miracles with that thing if u want to. 240sx arent a very common car, so at least u got one, the motor will last u about 50k more miles, more if u really take care of it. U can always do a rebuild and make it more powerful, or just drive the heck out of it and replace with a newer motor, ka24de or a sr20det. For the dash and rug, i dunno how much that will cost, go to mexico is cheaper if the guys over there dont rip u off. Remember u get what u pay for.

Lets see some pics of the car, Just because it's high mileage doesn't mean it's a piece of crap. In fact if that car is sporting any recent mechanical work you might have scored pretty well for $1800.

i would just go down to a auto dismantlers for the dash...i went down to pick-n-pull and took one out of another 240 and me and a friend installed it...it's not too hard, mainly just frustrating at times trying top pry it out without cracking the new one...it took us about 5 hours to get it in and it cost me 50 bucks...pretty good deal for a nice new dash

I'll get the pictures up probably by friday. Should i go to the junkyard first(to get dashboard, miscellanious other stuff) or should i go to a mechanic to get the car checked up first?(i'll probably fix up some paint on the bumpers)
Will a junkyard have good dashboards? or would i have to go to a auto dismantler.
I'm in South San Jose, Cali.

I'd go get the car checked up first. Then if there 's parts you need you might be able to find that at the junkyard. Which junkyard/dismantler do u go to? I'm in bay area too so I'm curious.

i'm pretty sure that a junkyard and a auto dismantler are the same thing...just look in your phone book and i'm sure you'll find a few in your area...you pay like 2 bucks to get in and it's heaven, just imagine having about 10 parts cars at your disposal. the one i go to is in windsor in the northbay but theres one in santa rosa too...and the dashboard i got was out of a 240 with 240,000 miles on it and it was in PERFECT condition not one crack or faded spot
