How many watts should a sub have to set off alarms as you pass by.. vibrate ur neighbors window, and be heard from a block away? Just want to know about how many watts it takes to do that, i dont want huge numbers i doubt it takes 1000 rms, or maybe it does i dont know. Just one powerful 12 or 10, how many watts? Thanks :evillol:

it will definately take alot, i have 600 rms going to 2 12s and it doesn't set off alarms. my sound pretty much stays in my car. it seems to be well insulated.

I had a thousand watts for two fifteens in my old car and it rattled peoples windows. So I would say around a thousand should do it.

It all depends on the system you are running and how it is setup. You can make alot out of a little if it is setup right

Been done with 100 watts RMS... Thats like asking how much horsepower it will take to do a quarter mile in 12 seconds without specifying the vehicle/setup.

My friend had 600 watts running to two audiobahn 12's and if we parked next to people in a parking lot, turned it up real loud, and opened the trunk it would set off alarms:)

its not pollution if you only play it loud to piss your neighbors off then turn it down after you passed by them lol

would 2 polk momo 12's do the trick or maybe 2 eclipse aluminums 12", i doubt 12" alpine type R's can do this with only 300rms each, hmm maybe Diamond Cw3's or M6's :P

Guys. really only poorly designed systems make that much noise on the outside of the vehicle. I have a very high power Directed Audio system that will slap you happy. It hits so hard that I can't drive at the same time because it vibrates my glasses too much. On the other hand, when all the windows are up, you really don't hear much at all and no, the whole car isn't lined with dynomat!

it can be done with very little power, it all depends on the setup and the car.

I have to agree ...... being able to hear the stereo stysem outside the car is being caused by wasted energy - flexing the car panels and glass

I agree with both of you. Yes, you don't really always need a bunch of wattage to get a system to boom. BUT, to do this you have to have a good quality amp. Not some Jensen, or cheap MTX thing. It has to be a rock solid amp like DEI, PPI, Macintosh or other high end amp that really pushes out what it says it does. Now, even on some vehicles and depending how much space you want to sacrifice, you might still need to go pretty high on wattage.

One thing about stereos, you can't always use cookie cutter ideas on building them. There are so many areas that you need to attend to and can change what you need to do and your outcome. Just like you won't want to build a sealed box for a convertable or a 4th order bandpass for a hatchback!
