i'm just a honda newbie...anyway, i have this problem regarding the "VTEC INDICATOR LIGHT" i tried doing it in my brothers 97 civic vti (SOHC VTEC) i tapped the possitive wire to the green with yellow stripe wire in the solenoid and the indicator worked.my problem is the indicator lights at 3200 RPM compared to what i read, VTEC kicks at 5500 RPM.My brothers SOHC is stock and he does't have a VTEC controller.need help...

pretty sure vtec is supposed to kick in before 5500 anyways, but can't remember when. thing is that it will not always kick in at the same time. there is not a set rpm that everyone's will go, the ecu senses several things that determine when it is engaged. if it is absolutely important and you've tried everything else i can probably find out where i saw what those factors were, but if it lights up at 3200, and you feel vtec engage, then that's been wired right. by the way.... i got 2 questions for you, as i'm hoping to give this a shot sometime over the summer. how hard was this, and are really good with this kind of stuff? can you post a pic of what you ended up using and where you placed the actual vtec light

thanks for the info...regaring the VTEC INDICATOR,it's not that hard,i made this mod on my brothers 97 civic.running the wire through the firewall going to the engine bay is kinda hard though...but after that, everything went smooth :D here's the site where i got that mod http://www.clubcivicquebec.com/site/technical/Cosmetic/016.html and i'm pretty sure those clusters are like my brother's.ok...i'll try to send u some pics.anyway,it's hard to feel the vtec on a SOHC right?coz my brother's car only have a SOHC engine so you can't really feel it kickin.on other forums, they told me that DOHC really kicks in at around 5500 while SOHC kicks in at an earlier rpm so i guessed i wired it right. :D

??? why do i keep hearing that? is it a totally stock sohc? i have a sohc, and you can totally tell very distinctly, but i have other things done (see sig). maybe it's just the increased audible from exhaust and intake that louden it, but it's unmistakable in my car

actually that link was sufficient. i just imagined most people would put a single bulb somewhere that would light up, but i wanted some ideas on how to make it actually say vtec. thanks

well mine's done, pics are in the link in my sig. weird thing though is that it comes on at 2500 rpm, even though the vtec system isn't being used on the engine. though the vtec system is 'enabled', it still needs things to happen in the engine before the cams actually change profiles
