Break dust solution for BMW's!

As most here already know, I own a new 2004 530i BMW. I am extremely happy with it, all but the brake dust issues which all BMWs have. :loser:
I have been doing research on the web, and got this p21 wheel cleaner, but I do like the hassle of having to clean my wheels everyday. :banghead:
I have found these Kleen Wheel dust shields for All Bimmer owners that want to eliminate the brake dust problem, (I am told by The Kleen Wheels company, their brake dust shields product is like a steel wheel, because their dust shields are made to fit inside the wheel, ((like an inside hub cap)), and in no way touches or interferes with the brake calipers ventilation as with any steel wheel that is fully enclosed).
NOTE:
They were some BMW owners who said, (and it made sense to me at the time), that these dust pad shields can cause rotors to overheat and warp! :nono:
The Kleen Wheels Company told me that this statement was true with old designs of brake covers from another company because it did enclose around the caliper, which did cause
overheating, :loser:
But these Kleen Wheels are tested in Germany and does not touch the caliper, just fit inside the wheel like an inside hubcap. The Kleen Wheels have been certified and approved by TUV. Keep in mind that we are talking about Germany - where the vehicles are driven on the Autobahn and in the Alps! :smokin:
So I wrote the company and they assure me these are not the old pads that have been discounted, but the new ones that do not build up heat and harm the rotors, (SEE INSERT). :iceslolan
So I am not going to order these new dust covers and give them a try.
I will let the BMW forum know sometime in the next couple of months how they turn out. The Kleen Company quoted me $105.00 for a set of four for my Bimmer. (But I have found two more retail store on the web that sell their Brake dust shield products for $80.00
inc. S & H) :grinno:

I know what you mean, although I have not seen them installed yet on a 2004 530i, :banghead:
But I am told by the Kleen Wheel Company they do not stand out, they are tested in Germany, made from a light weight black color aircraft material, and no one will not see them, unless they are looking for them.
All people will see is a clean polished Bimmer wheel, and no more break dust! :grinno:
So I am going to take a $75.00 (that includes Tax; S&H) chance to try to completely eliminate the BMW brake dust issue. If I do not like them, well I will take them off, and auction them off on eBay! (LOL) :smokin:
Sincerely,

Sounds great--I have seen them in Bavarian Autosport, and thought about ordering them.
The wheels on my '90 535i are a real pain to clean--the 15" 17-cross-spoke design popular in that era--but I've found that if you sit down once a week and work them over with a rag and some degreaser, the brake dust that does collect is much easier to remove. A coat of wax helps too.
The only issue I'd find with the Kleen wheels is that they obviously cover your rotors and calipers, which can be nice to see especially if you have a large, open wheel design.
Also, the type of brake pads used might positively or negatively affect the situation. Does anyone know about this?

Hi BMW 5 Series Forum:
Well, my new "Kleen Company" brake dust covers just arrived today by FedEx! They look cool and Hi tech and now have special air directional vents in the direction of the tire rotation for ventilation to cool the rotor.
I will have them installed tomorrow on my new 530i by the local tire store, (Kaufman Tire). The dust covers look better than I thought they would. :grinno:
For the ones who has been following this Brake issue being solved, I will let all here at the forum that are interested know how they look on the Bimmer and my personal opinion of what I think of them once they are installed. I would be glad to try to post a picture of them installed on my 2004 530i, but how does one up load a picture to the forum? (I know I will miss seeing the bare shiny rotor and calipers, but I will not miss seeing and cleaning the brake dust off my wheel every single night before bed! :loser:
I have owned two new Corvettes, Z-28's, Trans AM's, etc, but I never had the brake dust problem with any I just named, but contrary to some missing the old body style, (I too missed it at first, but this new one looks better every day, and more and more people are noticing it, it's Blue tint Angel Halo Xenons at night, and are now saying they like it better than the 2003. :smokin:
I was told by BMW that this new five series is the best so far that that Chris Bangle and the rest of the BMW team has ever put together, and now I am seeing that. :grinno:
My personal testimony on my 2004 530i. It is wonderful, smooth, fast, handles great, in essence to me as an owner, it reminds me of "Bill Gates" who is a genus with emerging technology, and after riding in my 04 530i, for a minute one might get the impression the new 2004 BMW five series is a Microsoft based iDrive driven hi-tech car!
As I was saying everything is great but one big issue? 1) What a pain with the brake dust! :loser:
You would think that BMW would solve this ongoing excessive brake dust issues "in one of these millenniums!" :icesangel
They could, but probably will not ever solve it, because it keeps the Kleen company in business selling us Bimmer owners their brake dust
covers. :banghead: Jk LOL.
Sincerely,
Presley348 :smokin:
PS,
I wonder if the Kleen Company is on BMWs Board of Directors, or is BMW a major Kleen Company stock holder? (Just kidding! LOL)

I had my new Kleen wheel covers progressional installed at the Kaufman Tire Company in the community where I live for just $55.00. :grinno:
Now for the price of $55.00 I had to buy their lifetime tire rotation and tire balancing package. :banghead: (Jk LOL)
The mechanic who installed them told me he had no problem, and they fit like a glove, and should not rattle, (and they don't!). I am thinking even if I do not use Kaufman Tire lifetime balancing and rotation package for my new 530i, it was well worth 55.00 to have them installed by a tire professional). :smokin:
In fact, he also told me that he takes those type brake dust covers off BMW's and Mercedes almost everyday when he rotating the tires, and then puts them back on, and he said sometimes he had trouble with theirs fitting back snug these "Kleen Wheels" did today.
He said he has not seen any like these I brought in today with the painted black and lightweight quality, and with direction flow air vents to cool the rotors! He said he had heard of them, (kleen wheels Company out of FL), but this is the first set that he has ever seen in person and he was quite impressed. :iceslolan
When I first saw them on my new 2004 530i, I could not believe how good they looked! In fact, unlike the picture of the BMW I posted here at the forum from the Kleen Wheel Company, if you did not know better one would think they were made by BMW especially for my Bimmer. :bigthumb:
Before I left Kaufman Tire, I made sure that 31lb of air pressure was in my front tires and 34 in my two rear tires, then I drove my Bimmer home with the windows down listening for any abnormal sounds i.e. rattles, etc., and I did not hear any, and the car drove just like it did before I added the Kleen wheel dust covers.
One more thing, is the past when I drove my Bimmer for as many miles as I drove today, I would have tons of brake dust on all four wheels to have to clean off, but now: there is NO BRAKE DUST, and my wheels are as clean, shiny and polished as the day I took delivery of my new Bimmer off the BMW showroom floor. :smokin:
This should be the last time I post on Kleen wheels, unless I run into any problem that I feel that you might need to hear about in your decision making whether to buy the Kleen wheels or not.
But right now I am so glad I did buy them for my new 2004 Titanium Silver 530i with a 1200 miles...:icesangel
In conclusion: I do hope my true Kleen wheel wordy story will help other Bimmer owners in their quest to find the right answer to get rid of their BMW brake dust issue like I did for under $80.00,(without installation of $55.00).
Another Proud 2004 Bimmer owner,
Presley348
PS,
If anyone has any question about these Kleen wheels that I did not answer, feel free to email me here at the forum, and ask me, and I will get back with you As soon as possible.
