Hi,
My xenon headlights intermittantly turn off while driving at night. Both turn off then on after a few second delay. It seems as if they turn on one at a time after going off. The light switch is on the "ON" position no "AUTOMATIC". I took it to the dealer 3x already and gotten the same BS answer, "we can't find anything wrong with it." My wife and I don't even drive it at night anymore and it only has 5K miles.
Any sugguestions or has anyone experienced this before?
Thanks.

I have my X5 in the shop right now for the same problem. Occasionally, the headlights shut off when we come to a complete stop at night. When the problem is present, it does this at every stop, with the switch in auto or manual, with the fog lights on or off, and with the high beam lights on or off. I will let you know what the dealer says, if anything.

Hi,
Yah I think I finally got the problem resolved. It took 3 tries taking it into the dealer to test. They did the same thing each time: hooked the car a battery and left the lights on all day and then did a road test where the shop foreman drives it home at night. The last time I was really upset and said this needs to be fixed ASAP cause I didn't buy an X5 to drive only in the daytime. To me it was a a risk driving at night since the lights could go out.
My lights would both turn off then turn on one at a time. I think the right first then the left HID. It was on the "ON" position everytime, not AUTO, and it happens regardless of if I have the fog lights on.
The dealer finally changed the control module on my X5 and I have not seen the problem come back yet. It has been 2-3 months since they swapped my control module. If you want to talk about it or get more information on what my dealer did just send me a private message with your phone number and I'll be glad to give you a call and refer you to my service advisor so that your service advisor follow what was done on my X5.
I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me. Best wishes.

Just got my X5 back from the shop. Apparently, there is a Service Measure bulletin out for this problem. It is B630502. They have to reprogram the RLS through the VKM to decrease the sensitivity of the system. This does not seem to make sense since my lights would go out in the middle of the country (very dark) if I came to a complete stop, and also if I had the light switch to the manual ON position, but we will have to see.

Well, last night the problem re-appeared. The Service Measure bulletin B630502 did not do the trick. The lights shut off at a stop, or when moving very slowly, e.g. turning into a parking spot. Switch in AUTO or MANUAL ON does not matter.
When starting your X5 at night, do your headlings come on, then go off, then come back on?
My service center hasn't got any idea what the problem is.

Besides ATD how many miles did the rest of you have when you ran into problems? Is this an issue with a perticular year?
