Hey im new to boards, but I've been reading them for a while. I'd like to know what car is faster, a stock Celica Gt-S or a stock 97 Del Sol Vtec. Celica has more hp, but its heavier, while the Del Sol is much lighter. Aight thanks guys,
Adam.

Found a link of the celica.
http://www.modernracer.com/history/toyotacelicagtshistory.html

Based on stats:
Celica GT-S 180 hp 126lbs of tq at 2500 lbs
del-Sol VTEC 160hp 111lbs of tq at 2522 lbs

I guess by numbers the celica could be faster, but that all depends on the driver and how skilled they are. About the only way your going to know is to race the cars.

A GT Celica is faster than the GT-S. A 90' model GT-S runs 0-60 in around 10.5 seconds, fairly slow, IMO. The 94 GT is closer to 8.4. I don't know quite as much about the new celica's. A V-tech sol, should outrun any of those model celicas without too many problems. As a stock Vtech Sol runs in the low 7's 0-60 stock. With a simple mod or two and decent driving you should be able to get below 7...

I'd say go with the Sol, no questions asked unless you need more than a two seater. Plus the Sol is a targa top! Out handles and out drags the early to mid 90's model Celicas... I think a better comparison or question would compare the sol to the MR2. The last 2 generations of MR2's have been good cars IMO...

I guess if you are talking a new Celica I think its going to be pretty close. I think the 97' Vtech Sol is a hair faster in the 1/4 mile stock. So I guess it depends what you want. For the price of a new Celica you could get a good Vtech Sol and mod it up a bit and still have a good hunk of cash in hand, a reliable car, and something that would easily take the stock celica in the corners on the track or dragging... I'd still say Sol, unless you just like the Celica, its a bit subjective, similar track times...

have u forgotten the gt4/alltrac? comes with 200hp awd... the jdm comes with 225hp, then after 1994 it comes with 245hp... imo... thats enough to rip a hole in the del sol's ass? how bout u?

lol, ghetto, nice wording. I agree, jdm 3sgte would rip a new hole in a sol.

Actually, GhettoAzn... The original post was not in regards to the All-Trac Celica. However, to answer your question or comment on your reply. The 90' all-trac is just about 1/10 of a second faster than a Sol V-tech in the 1/4 (thats a 94 Vtech stock), so very close, not much difference. It comes down to what you like. But the all-trac celica could be an option, though it doesn't sound like Ruffnight was considering the all-trac. Like I said its a bit subjective, I'd still go with the Sol.

i kno he wasnt looking at the alltrac but you said a mid 90's celica.. you didnt say mid 90's celica gt, gts, st, wutever... you just said "celica" which includes the gt4... also i said the japanese one with 45 more hp would rip a hole.. im sure its 1/4 mile time is faster, wut do you think?

Ghettoazn, I don't know about the JDM Celica, all the other celica's are a tad slower and aren't quite as nimble as a Sol, with exception to the All-Trac which is very close in speed (1/10 sec faster in 1/4). I would think the additional 45 horses would reduce that 1/4 time up a bit. So I would assume yes the JDM would be a bit faster than a Vtech Sol, but like I said I'm not as familar with it.

I like the Sol Vtecs and MR2s myself, but as far as just ball out speed from a jap import, I'd go with a Supra. I've never driven a modded Celica...

wouldnt everyone rather have a supra? supras a lot of times can easily be 4x more expensive than a turbo mr2 in good shape .... then if u want to upgrade it, its even more expensive... some turbo kits for the supra are over $8,000, and its a 6 year old car... so overall, the supra is to expensive for most people to get, and to upgrade...
