Jetta III Transmission Problems?

I was travelling home on a 2 hour+ trip when I got off the freeway to notice I was having trouble accelerating in every gear except 1st. If I try to accelerate too quickly my RPMs shoot up, like I slipped out of gear. I have a manual transmission and I know nothing about cars. Haha. If anyone knows what this could be, please let me know. Thanks in advance. -J
