the quad 4 was developed by OLDS in the late 80s, there was a 150hp version (LD2) then later in 1990 there was the quad 4 HO that made 180hp (LGO) then there was the quad 4 W41 (W41) that made 190hp there was also a quad 4 OHC that made about 120hp then in 96 GM changed the name to 2.4 Twin Cam making 150hp (LD9) (this was done to make people think that the TC was not a quad 4, and thus do away with its bad rep) Although many people seem to think the Q4 is a bad engine, most of the troubles that are common with the motor are caused by owners lack of maintenance, and the most common problem is a blow head gasket. Then finally the 2.4TC was done away with for the Ecotec making 140hp (L61) in 01. The ecotec has a lot of things in common with the older quads but it isn’t as alike as the TC and quad 4.

The quad 4 came in more cars then just berretas and the 95 jbodys. The quad 4 came in alot of cars GM made from about 88-95. there was a grand prix powered by a quad 4, grand ams of all types powered by a quad, Achieva's, Calais, quad 442, Cutlass Supreme. there was even a cutless convertable pace car with a turboed quad 4 making 250hp.

I was just curious...I posted this thread a long time ago and just before now when i read the posts i've done some research...I'm trying to figure the next best engine to put into my Cavi. since I'm getting me another car here shortly...I'm looking into the Olds. Achieva Quad 4 in 94 because it came with the 190hp and i found a Quad 4 Turbo that came in the convertible...but i could also get the 3.1 Turbo...or the 3.4 Supercharged from a GTP. not sure yet....any suggestions?
