What happened to the good times of graduation where families could go up and take pictures, everyone just showed up, maybe a little unorganized by some that didn't come but overall knew what to do due to the practice at an earlier time, throw hats in the air after declared graduates, took time during the ceromony with guest speakers, and didn't have a dress code stricter than lethal ejection preps???

Today we had our "class teacher" who doesn't tell us anything till the last minute as it is, can only buy prom tickets after school when only 1/4 of the senior class remains, and didn't annouce voting for prom theme, just let whoever may have known show up and vote 'cause apparently if you "Weren't there, then you didn't care"....yes, she rhymed.....

But why? There's so much now that we have to follow. Kids can't take cameras to take pictures in, hell, we're only allowe car keys with us, if those. We will be turned back to return our sunglasses to our car.

I know that I won't have to deal with this since I'm goin' to college and all but still, as she said, "You may exeperience more than one birth of a child," "some other BS, " but you will only graduate once from high school"

So does anyone else have such issues with there graduation/prom? All these major restrictions? Our's is 1 hour long, we go in, get diplomas and leave...

P.S. I didn't know where to put this, it fits several topics.....

welcome to the world of post columbine

i had the same problems when i was in HS. its the administration putting a band aide on a wound that needs a tornequet (sp?)

by not allowing you to have a voice, they can feel like they are in more control of whats going on, and apparently that makes you safer. by enforcing ludicris dress codes and banning anything but car keys at social functions, they can tell worried parents that "hey, look, we're doing something to make your child safer"

I thought high school graduation was a waste of my time. My folks wanted to see it though and since I'm the oldest - I had to go. Blew a great afternoon.

only thing that bothered me about it is how horribly anal they are about EVERYTHING involving graduation. they pretty much wasted 2 hours out of every day for 2 weeks teaching us how to walk right.

prom was cool though...i go/went to a catholic high school so they try to do the "if you're within 3 feet of a girl you're both going to hell" thing, but they let us go that night...it was cool

I went to my graduation, but in the audience. You see, our school colors were teal, black and silver...which one did they pick for the robes? FUCKING TEAL. Why not black or silver, that would've been badass but I HATE TEAL and was not paying $19 for a teal robe.
So anyhow I watched from the bleachers, what a boring waste of time. Kinda like all of High School.
I mean, honestly, woo hoo for me, I graduated, big whoop. It's not like it's challenging, you can totally BS your way through. So graduation to me was celebrating that I accomplished not much of anything. YAY!

Ahem. You know where I worked before the Library, so you'll know my opinion on cameras in sensitive areas. But I still don't see what cameras have to do with El Threado?

Skipped my graduation. Had everything mailed. School had metal dectors, security, police, and the occassional police K-9. Not just for the prom, graduation, or just any event, but year round. So, glad I am no longer in school. I cant imagine what its like now. This was back in the 90's.
College is no better either. Just in college, you get busted, you pay. Rememeber your an adult now and society wants the new generation to act accordingly. Haa haa haa haa. OK..

my brother skipped his high school graduation which never crossed my mind on doing even though i dreaded goin to it..they were anal there and graduation is totally boring..some people brought beach balls and hit them around while people were gettin their diploma and some guy was there trying to chase them all down because theyre dangerous or something...it was funny watching people hit them away just when he was gettin near them...i ended up skippin my college grad because i would have to get up at like 7 in the mornign and be there all freakin day ..saved a saturday and a lot of money

Our graduation was supposed to be strict, but we all said f*ck it and did whatever the hell we wanted. They can't stop 400+ people. The teachers were pissed, but the audience loved it.

Robes $19??? That'd be nice...ours was $30 and they like a cheap child's costume with a styrofoam hat...we may not even be able to toss

So get a robe a few sizes bigger so you CAN play Pocket Billiards.
