mainstream media control

i want to see what people's view is on this subject, outside of my little town here in ohio.
basically, do you believe the mainstream media is controlled more-so by the left, the right, or do you believe it is reported fairly unbiased?
i personally think the news is highly controlled by the left. it makes me sick. don't get me wrong, i respect other people's opinions, and thank God it's a free country and we can believe what we like, but i consider myself fairly conservative in views, and when i turn on the tv anymore, it seems like all i see is the news (along with other programming) trying to convince me to become a liberal. i guess the reason i am posting this, is because i recently saw the movie "the day after tommorow." the movie sucked really bad. but beside's that, it was very evident that the vice president in the movie (the evil character), has a very very strong resemblence to dick cheny. i just think that's getting rediculasly low. you don't see conservatives bashing liberals (at least not at that low of a level)

Why yes, yes I do. Here in Kansas that is at least 95% of all talk radio.

Don't see conservatives bashing liberals? - ha!
It seems that most "opinion" shows are from a conservative viewpoint. Thankfully, we have college radio to balance everything out :icon16:

the only conservative talk radio i get around here is the EIB network (glen beck and rush limbaugh). now they do come out againt liberals, but i have yet to disagree with them, in almost any of their statements. i wouldn't say they bash liberals. it's just a shame i have to listen to an AM station to pick them up. i can get 6 NPR stations on FM. maybe i should move to kansas

Dont' forget those you already mentioned: glen beck and rush limbaugh, or on TV, Mr. O' Reilly and that one guy - damn my poor ability to recall names - was on the radio, and in the movie Joe Dirt.
I live in a pretty conservative state, so most of our local stations have conservative people speaking too.

right now the media, to me, seems incredably conservative. at least the big names. i mean, you got rush, oriely, etc who are all big name conservatives, with very hot spots in the line-up. yet really (and please, correct me if im wrong, i dont watch too much TV) you have to go to indie media to get a liberal voice. now, keep in mind, just because something isnt conservative enough, doesnt make it liberal. this is something i feel a majority of people seem to forget.
now overall, i think the media tends to sway to whoever is in power. considering that like 2 or 3 corporations control 95% of the media people recieve, and these people have ties, influence and permanent lobbyists in congress (mostly fighting for monopoly and censorship rights) they tend to suck up to the reighning power in order to get their way, or to get privilages (like good seats at press conferences, or exclusive interviews)
i try to stay away from the mainstream media, right or left. its all tempered, dumbed down, superficial, and censored anyway.

i'll agree with you on that.
at any rate, conservatives do have rush and orielly. but what about CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC. they all degrade Bush, and report only what they wish the american public to hear (i'm in a hurry i'll post example's later). there is a very good reason why fox news is the most watched news station in the US. b/c people like to hear the truth, not just parts of it.

The whole media being left or right has pretty much played itself out. Left or right begins from your perspective. What is right to someone might be left to another. Like anything someone tells you. Take it with a grain of salt and how much you trust the source.

I wouldn't call it "right", I would call it the truth. Some people refuse to believe or listen to the truth out of their own foggy opinions.

or because people dont want to have to think about their news, they just prefer sound bites.
ive found the majority of people dont want to atctually think about things in the news, they just accept whatever news they watch as the ultimate truth, and dont bother to get any other oppinions on it.
the fact is, you need to go to several sources, on both ends of the spectrum, and decide what the truth is for yourself. and noone does that. its really sad

From what little I see of Fox News, it is the only one that provides you with both a carefully selected snippet of news lasting 30 seconds, followed by 90 seconds of opinion from the anchors.
I would suggest Fox's popularity is due to people liking the ready made opinion they can use in conversation without having to work things out for themselves. It saves them time, energy and makes them sound more knowledgable (to some people anyway).
IMHO, Fox News is for lazy minds.
It is better to READ about stuff than to see it on T.V. This is because watching television is a passive thing whereas reading engages the mind in understanding what is written.
Also, when reading you absorb information at your personal pace and can review things that didn't fit the first time.
Reading also cuts alot of the soundbite crap that you get with television.
My first choice for news sources are the independant ones.
