Check Engine Light (nobus)

I was driving yesterday and, yet again, my 1999 Durango turned off suddenly while driving. It occured three times over the weekend where the Durango would turn off for no reason, once while accelerating, and twice while coasting downhill. When I pulled off the side of the road, the check engine light came on and the words "nobus" read in the odometer. Does anyone know what this means? I know that "nobus" has to do with some electrical problem but anyone have anymore specifics? o2 Sensor? Some other electrical problem?

The guys at the allpar forums say that it's a loss of communication between the modules. It also mentions the computers having viruses and stuff, but I don't know which of this applies to you. I hope this helps a little, you might want to read some of what these guys said, it might help you make a little more sense of all this:

Thanks Bleed. Still doesn't make much sense but, from people I have also talked to, the "nobus" indicates a lack of comunication between modules. At least we got that. Hopefully when they hook it up to one of those computers it will read out exactly what is going on. Praying.

Reading that post from the other forum wasn't easy. I don't even know what the hell that guy is trying to say on most of his posts. I almost couldn't compose myself when they said his computer is infected by viruses? Is this for real??? Can we install Norton Antivirus on our vehicles then? Also that person seemed to said something about using a computer from another vehicle. Must be the problem then. Never found much compatibility in swaping computers, etc from different make cars. Normally those PCM's are all registered to to the Vehicle's VIN.

I took a computer from a Daytona for my Turismo when I had it in storage and the mice ate through the wiring inside it. I would believe it could be possible that it had a virus. The stupidest things can happen to anyone these days.

I don't know what if these guys had to say was right, but it's a step in the right direction I'm sure. At least I didn't send him to a forum about something totally different or anything...

I had this same problem, and I have extensively researched this same problem. In every case that I have found the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) needed to be replaced. I also needed my BCM(Body Control Module) replaced but after that it still died and did not work until they replaced the PCM. My understanding is that when the chip gets hot it loses memory or something like that, causing you to lose electrical communitcation. Luckily the PCM is covered by an 8 year 80,000 mile warranty.

The PCM is bad, the NOBUS error is because the PCM isn't communicating.

LOL I just did a Google search and I think that was the first thing I clicked. Yeah some of that was pretty badly worded and mispelled, lol.
