Well i got my license about 3 weeks ago and am in the process of getting a civic 92-93 coupe 2 door. The first thing i want to do is to get an alarm system to ensure my cars safety. I've gone to ebay and found alot of these pager alarms like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14934&item=5701968104&rd=1
and this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14934&item=5701742000&rd=1
. now my question is, are these alarms worth the money? i mean there real cheap so should i buy them or are they crap? if so how much should i spend on a car alarm?
One other thing, most of these alarms come with distant starters and distant door unlocking, my father told me it is different between automatic and manual cars, is this true?
i don't know if i'll get an auto or manual yet (whatever good deal i come across im going with, even though i prefer man.) . So if it's true then ill probably wait and buy one after i get my car.
suggestions?

Do not buy either one of those alarms. They are junk. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...5701742000&rd=1 This one has a life time limited waranty on it but has no name brand or contact info. My buddy tried to go cheap. I installed the damb thing in an Alero and it partly worked. The door locks malfunctioned. And now he cant get his money back. And I wasted my time. If you want an alarm get something that has a good reputation and a waranty. Oh and something with a brand name on it. Cheap + electronics= garbage.

Good idea http://www.directed.com. Viper makes the best Alarm but they are costy. If you like the Two way alarm try http://www.autopageusa.com I have the RSLCD750 and it hasent let me down. I would say that its close to Viper aand cheaper. They go for 169.00 on ebay

is DEI a good company? not sure if 96civic coupe is saying they are good, or they are bad.

ok so ill probably be spending 150$ + on the alarm. So on to my next question, do remort starters work the same for automatic and manual cars or is it different?

They are the same units. You can add a safety for the manual so that it dont take off in gear. It is illegal in some states to have a remote starter in a manual trans. Check with your local Audio/security shop for info. I had one on my prelude manual trans and my car took off on me one day becuase I accidentaly hit the remote start. It ran over a small tree.

DEI is the best brand out there. You can buy the Python, SIdewinder, and Hornet brands a little cheaper. ALso, they make a 2way system in their Valet brand. I sell that one for about $275 installed, not sure what they would be in your area.

I would have to agree with ponchonutty some. Viper (dei) has the best unit out. Dei is definitly the most popular but i have found some brands to be just as good. I am an installer and an X felon and know the tricks.

how do clifford pager alarm systems do vs. vipers?

sofast
06-01-2004, 11:45 PM
To be honest with you they are close to the same unit. You could unplug the brain from the Viper and plug the Clifford in. It would work the same minus a few functions. Thats how interchangable they are

Well, a little time ago I was going to dumb DEI's line to find some either better or cheaper. I found both. It was down to Prestige, Autopage, and Compustar. The Compustar had a lot of neat things with it but just didn't live up to the hype it had on any of those I installed. The Autopage units I liked but started having some come back with burnt wire harnesses. Then Prestige, I almost took them but I had a lot of people come back with remotes dead. So, the end result was all about the same. I decided to stick with DEI. That way I don't need to worry about people comming back. :2cents:

Yes, it's OK but I would spring for at least the 310 if you have power locks so you can have keyless entry.

Remember that all of DEI's brains are based upon the same platform more or less. So, the cheapest brain and the more expensive one will work about the same. It's just that the more expensive one might have more channels and expanability to work on. Also, do not think that any one alarm will work 100% for you. You might need to upgrade parts of it or your car. You might want to install a pain generator or backup battery siren for starter. Or, if you have a convertable, spring for the prox. sensor.

Many people think they can just buy the most expensive alarm and have it do all they need without adding anything else to it. They are wrong :eek7:

hmm well i don't have power locks.. if i bought that 210, what would you suggest i "add-on" to it. you mentioned a "pain generator or backup battery siren" any more info on these or other things i should consider to adding to a security system?

thanks, you seem very knowledgable in this subject

Yes, thanks. I have been working in alarms for many years now. Yeah, the 210 would be fine for you but you still might consider the other one because you could keep the option of adding power locks down the road. Anyway, the pain generator is just a small siren with a super high pitched output that makes your head want to split. The back up siren is basically like a regular siren but has a battery built inside it. So, if your battery cables are cut or the siren's wires are cut, it'll go off for ever or until you shut if off with your keys. You might want to put mercury tilt sensor on your trunk and hood. These are great because they'll virtually never fail. Also, a prox. sensor is always nice too. These are all just ideas of course and can be added at anytime.

^^ ooo i like that they can be added at anytime. cuz i can pick up that 210 for damn cheap.

where would one go about purchasing these "upgrades" ?

thanks again

Yeah, the Rattler is a very basic alarm system and doesn't require a lot of $$ to get one. Now, remember just because I said that you can add these things at anytime doesn't really mean that any of these are meant to be installed on this particular alarm. You'll have a few obsticals to overcome. 1st, it has it's shock sensor inside the alarm. This is fine as long as you mount the brain in a good location to pick up break-ins. Also, I am not sure this alarm comes with starter kill. It has the output, just not the relay needed. This is no big deal though. But, the rest of adding additional sensors, you'll have to piggyback them to work on this alarm. This is the reason why it is so cheap. Better alarms will have multiple sensor inputs. You won't find any of these multiple inputs until you get into the Hornet line or above.

Felons dont suck. They are people just like anyone else. I have met a few dudes in the joint that I would say are better people than alot of people on the streets. People make mistakes brother. I have found mine and they are corrected.

Neither one is really worth anything. That's one of the first models of Ungo I have seen for a while. There was a rumor that DEI bought out Clarion but if they had, I don't see any simularities from any of them

Thats exactly what I am saying. Dumb ass. Like I said, some of the trouble makers I have met are better men than people like you. Felons dont suck. Your mom sucks. But not as good as you. Period

since we are all on the topic of alarms. i'm looking at getting one and i would like a pager one. i mean afterall what good is an alarm is you can't hear it go off. i'm looking at either viper or clifford, maybe autopage or code alarm. any suggestions on these? i would also like a trunk popper but i don't have an button to push to pop the trunk. you pull a lever to open it. people say i need a sylenoid or some ish liek that. is this expensive? thanks.

i think they sell 50 lb. solenoids on autoloc.com that are made for popping doors and trunks, you'd have to find an alarm that allows to add it on prob

1st, look at Python or Viper's new line. It is a 2way pager with LED remotes instead of the LCD screen. It is much more rugged and does the same thing as the LCD screen. Plus it is less expensive. You can always add a LCD screen if you really need it though.

As for hatch/trunk release. Yes, you can add it but usually you have to cut off your pull handle to hook the cable to the solanoid.
