1996 BOSE cd player shows - err

Does anyone know if the CD player needs cleaning? I have a 1996 maxima with a bose factory cd player, but everytime a place a CD in it it reads - ERR?

I have noticed that the ERR message shows up in an occasional track in my 1996 Bose CD player as well. The player pauses for a few seconds and then continues. This has happened in the last year only. But my CDs work very well for the most part. Still I am going to get a CD cleaner myself.
